Going down in bow weight and having trouble deciding on arrows and weight. Did shoot a 65lb assenheimer with wood arrows at 600 grains. Did great on elk which is my main target. Going to a 55lb Black tail. 30" arrows with 29" draw. Arrows I have handy are some Gold tip 3555 weighing 362 grains (shaft only) and some Heritage 90's which weigh 319 grains. With points they are in the 500-525 range. What suggestions do you have for elk arrow weights and what combo's do you think will fly best with my 30" arrow and 55lb bow. Usually shoot 170 grain zwickeys. Appreciate your advice.

I really like a CE Heritage 250 with around 250 up front. I have ended up there with my last two bows(55 & 57#). A little over 600gr. If I remember correctly.
This stuff ain't no rocket surgery science!

Sounds like the ones you have will be weak. I'm with Rob. I like the CE Heritage shafts. I have both 150 and 250's. I'm shooting the 150's in the range you talk about cut to 32" with anywhere from 150 to 175 grains up front. I haven't messed with the 250's in a while, but I think I was around 200 grains and had some that were a little more.

It is impossible to know all the specs of the arrow without testing, but If I were to set an arrow up for your specs, I would start off with either :

Gold tip : 5575 and a hundred grain brass insert and that should give you about 570 g at 30"s. It will help to add a wrap to the back of the shaft to "slightly" stiffen it and you may have to build out the side plate a little.
The 7595 will likely be too stiff even at full lenght...but stranger things have happened.

Or...
CX heritage 250's with a 100g brass insert also with a wrap. They will be slightly stiffer and come in around 600g.

The 350's may also work but most likely at full length and more weight up front.

good luck, bigjim

Familiar with the Gold Tip shafts so I'll keep to what I know.

I'm with Big Jim on his suggestions....5575 with a 100 grain brass insert will get  you in the area and then play around a bit. I've shot this set up with similar draw weight bows with great success. Having made the switch from wood to carbon a few years ago I'm glad I switched and the GT have been great from day 1. Big Jim is awesome to deal with and would be a great place to buy some GT Blems.

As with most things though YMMV

Another GT Tad 55/75 advocate here. 30" with 100gr insert. Change point weight to tune.

With my 53lb Blacktail, CE150 with 50 or 100 grn brass inserts was too weak. I had to go to CE250 to be able to add weight so I could get my total arrow weight where I wanted it.

pressure and a thousand years, and you will have carbon in place of wood.    :dunno:
