I start about 200 yards from my stand or however far the trail allows . Tip #1 never go right to your stand with it , always zig zag or cut across in front and hang it . If you walk right to the stand deer will be facing you and no shot :0)
Try to be the person your dog thinks you are :0)

i kinda figured that out yesterday the hard way.i grunted and bleated one to the trail then he ran in and i missed a straight down shot.but i only had a fifty yard trail. thanks for the advice. got off all week to try it again.

Remember when dragging any distance, the scent will diminish. So its wise to reapply your scent or lure to the rag every 50-60 yds until you reach your stand. On damp wet days, we apply the lure real heavy on the drag, then circle our blinds or stands before settling in.

This may be a little off topic, but yesterday I hung a few cannisters with Tinks 69 upwind of my stand and had 3 different does turn inside out when they smelled it. I'm buck hunting right now, but don't want to run the does off cause I'm hoping there will be a buck behind them. Anyone else had estrus scent affect does this way? This is the first (and maybe the last) time I will use estrus scent unless I did something wrong.

Not an expert on scent, but my feeling is it depends on the individual deer's prior experience with that scent, or any scent.

If they were "lured" in once and got the daylights scared outa them because someone missed a shot or a hunter otherwise got picked off, that deer won't like that scent again...
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

Ga. boy, was it fresh. If it was older it turns into ammonia basically and that will sppok them.

I often have negative experiences with does and doe estrus scents.  But the bucks don't seem to mind it.  They either work it or ignore it.  Had this smart old doe hit a drag line once and literally hit reverse before turning around 10 yards later.  She was a smart 'un.  What might have been her daughter the year before came down the same trail later and wasn't so smart.

If a Doe isn't in estrus she generally doesn't want to be around another Doe that is. She knows that the estrus Doe will attract unwanted attention from the BOYS! I think thats why Non-estrus doe's tend to get alarmed by estrus scent.
