Was shooting my Thunderchild and moving some limbs off of my home range yesterday. First I take few shots at a block target, then I pull those and fling an arrow at the deer target down in the woods. I go pull that, then I see a hole in the foliage and the big foam block with a piece of cardboard and 2 blue masking tap spots on is begging me to take shot so I shoot 4 arrows put down the bow and begin moving limbs on my way to pull those arrows. For some reason I go back and get my bow and then when I go to pull the first arrow I see things flying out of the target and instantly feel that burn that only a yellow jacket can deliver. I'm tucking the Thunderchild under my arm and slapping my wrist and elbow and running as fast as this old man can go. Arrows are still in the block with a swarm of angry yellow Jackets around them. So I go pop a benedryl just in case and wait for dark.
I usually don't bother these critters if I know where they are but in my target? They have to go. So I spray where I think the hole is and wait until this morning to go have a look. Well no activity so I go and pull the arrows slowly from the side. Nothing. Then I had to move the cardboard and out they come and I get to do another 100 yard dash except this time one finds me in the yard and I have sprint the rest of the way to the house to plan another night time RAID!

All out war is the only solution.  Time for the can of wasp and hornet killer...get the one that can spray up to 27ft.  Love the stuff.

I feel your pain.  I've got an ancient 4 ft square foam block that is used only for broadhead practice right before hunting season.  I've had some real nasties nest in that thing!  Now I give it a little "long distance nudge" with a stick before I snatch it up.

Yellow Jackets are bad news!. They make me very sick when I get stung.

They can be good and bad. In my target? Yeah, that would definitely be bad. In my front yard so I could claim they were keeping me from mowing the lawn when I wanted to go shooting instead - not so bad.

That reminds me of a time I was packing in on a Mt Goat hunt in Washington state. I had on a FULL pack going in for a week or more of goat hunting. My hunting buddy Dale Holpainen had volunteered to go with me for support and extra eyes glassing. We were bush wacking through some big timber when I stepped over a fall down log and stepped right into a yellow jacket nest    :scared:    :scared:    I had a 70 pound pack on my back and running was not easy, not to mention I was going UP a mountain. I was screaming like a girl and my buddy was laughing like he was watching Saturday Night Live ... I got hit about 7-8 times and it hurt more than a little bit. Fortunately they did not follow me far. That ended up being the highlight of the trip as we saw zero goats that trip.

Them and hornets have been bad here this year for some reason.  Thicker than normal.  They're slick and take a few shots to get them all!

Sure hope you meant to paint a funny picture, cuz I was laughing at the sight of your running away.

Funny and not funny at the same time. Lots funnier when it isn't your own feet beating the retreat path.

Have to admit a fire arrow would be cooler than peening each one between the eyes with a ball peen hammer as they exit their hole early in the morning!
