Hi to all the members of a great site. Have gotten back into archery after a 10 year hiatus. Currently shooting a Hoyt Buffalo and considering a long bow. I am looking at the Great Plains Osagian and would appreciate comments from members that may have shot one. TIA Spirit

In my opinion you can get a custom bow with woods of your choosing for the same price as a osagian. So I would go the custom route.

Welcome to the Gang, Spirit.  Not familiar with the Great Plains, but they've been around a long time so I suspect they make a pretty good bow.  Most of us would encourage you to shoot several bows before you buy new.  You can buy/sell/trade used without spending much or go to a big trad shoot and shoot different bows until your fingers are ready to fall off.    :archer:
What kind of weight are you looking for?

I concur with the above comments.  Go to some shoots and test some or get a used longbow first. Some good ones listed on TradBow forum right now. Shoot as many types as you can before you order new and go the custom route.  The Hoyt Buffalo is a nice bow also so nothing wrong with just shooting it.  The Tomahawk by 3 Rivers is made by Great Plains also so that is a option.  I shot a Great Plains before but not that specific one, very nice but not amazing for me. Nothing wrong with the Bear Patriot as a less expensive first longbow either.  You have to shoot different bows to find the one that fits you best.  Some top longbow include Cari-bow,  Hummingbird,  Wallace, Toelke,  Javaman,  Black Canyon, Schafer,  Stewart, Dwyer and Centaur among many others. Welcome!!!!!

Hello and welcome to trad gang. Unfortunately, I have not shot the bow you are asking about, so I can't give you any feedback on it.

I see you haven't become a contributor yet,but if you do there is an Eldorado for sale from grayfeather. It is a great looking bow,and I have been drooling over it. I would consider Great Plains to be a custom bow,but that's just me. Oh and by the way welcome to Trad Gang!

Welcome!  And I agree, you should definitely shoot a bunch of bows before you buy, if at all possible.  Good luck!
