In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

About 20 years ago my friend Mike and I were out hunting rabbits with muzzle loading shotguns and we were walking threw a frozen swamp when I said to him " if I remember rite there is a creek that runs threw here some place ". Which he responded a few seconds later " FOUND IT ! ". He was up to his shoulders in ice and water . He handed me his shotgun and then I laid on my stomach and pulled him out . We then hurried to a small high spot where I built a fire as quickly as I could and he striped down to his what ever and was turning like a vertical rotisserie . After a few minuets I started laughing . And he asked what was so funny ? I said " you are smoking " . He then started laughing too and said that the fire felt better than the ice water . After about an hour his cloth were dry enough that he put them back on and we hunted the rest of the day .
That is just one of the interesting days we had and by the way it was him that got me carrying a heat tab with me every time I was out in the woods . We were both glad that I had one that day because you can get a fire going very fast with one of those .
Thanks Trad Gang for your kind support .
God bless you all . Dale    :campfire:    :archer:

May your memories keep you strong, keep eating the "critter dejour"! Sounds like a great relationship you guys enjoyed over the years.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways-BOW in one hand-ARROWS in the other-Body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming-WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!

So sorry for your loss a good hunting buddy is a true gift. I have made more close friends with traditional archery than any other hobby I I have had. I haven't lost any of them yet but we are getting older! My heart and prayers go out to you I am sure you feel like a part of you died too. God Bless!

Pine

Well he was the only hunting buddy that I have had for the past 20+ years , Our other one moved to Colorado and we lost touch with him .
I will still be hunting and I am sure that I will get reminded of him quite frequently when I am out in the woods . I will probably have to poke a stick in a fire once in a while for him .

Bummer. Definately sorry to hear about your loss.  Memories keep him alive from with in..

Lectrajack

I don't have any specific memories of Mike, only of playing with his kids in our backyard when he would come over to go hunting with you. I do recall Mike was always a happy guy.

I've been told that if you can make it through life with one true friend you are blessed. Mike was a true friend to you and you are better for having him in your life.

It is so sad that Mike had to leave us so soon, but we know he is at peace and no longer sick.  Cherish the times you had, for you were truly blessed to have such a good friend.

I pray that God supplys you with another great friend and new memories to add to those you now have with Mike.

God bless you, Steve
