Put a new D10 12 strand string on my longbow and it is alot louder than my DF97 string.Tried moving brace height to no avail,using cat whiskers for silencers as I always do moved them to differaent locations did not help.Has anyone experience the same thing and if so any solutions.Thxs for any help

Nope. D-10 has always been quitter than D-97 for me.

SBD moved from D97 to D10 several years ago because it was quieter and more stable, at least the SBD's were.  How many strands was your D97 string?  A 12 strand D10 would handle a bow over a 100 pounds, no need to use such an overbuilt string.

Could be the padding in the loops also.  If the d97 was padded to 16-18 strands and the D10 is not will make a difference if it's a recurve

How the string is made and tuned will usually make as much or more difference than the material uses.  I've also run across a rare bow that just "likes" one material over another--go figure.

The quietest over-all material I've used so far is BCY-X, all else being equal.

Chad - what is your recommended strand and loop padding count using the X for 45/50 # longbows?

Cat whiskers are not very effective on astro string ,at least for me.
Try with some wool materials ( 25 grs) each balls positioning in L4 and tell me what do you think about....

I'm having great results with 18-20 strands, loops padded to 24 with B-55.  Sounds like a lot, but it's a very small diameter strand--about 1/2 the diameter of Dynaflight '97.

Haven't tinkered with anything smaller--haven't seen any reason to.

I'm sure you meant BC-x,  and not B55 Chad.  Thank you for the information that gives me a good starting point as I am looking forward to trying this new material.

I'll bet Chad wrote what he meant.  Padding with B55 generally is quieter in the string loops and more economical.

Yep--string BCY-X, padding B-55.  Since the padding isn't carrying any of the load, it's fine to use B-55.  It does seem quieter also.

Can you tell much difference in padding a BCY-X with B-50 rather than B-55? I have some B-50 and was about to buy some BCY-X, but didn't know if it was worth buying the B-55.

The B-50 should work fine.  If you are going to be at the Howard Hill shoot, look me up--I'll be there for BCY with some great deals on string material.
