With a old borrowed 45lb Bear bow, my son Nathan and I waded into a creek on a friend's land.  We ended up shooting three gar, two of them pretty good sized.  My buddy who loaned me the bow warned me about the line, telling me to make sure it was above my bowhand.  I know I started out in the right position but I apparently re-gripped wrongly.  When I drew on the first fish I noticed the sting seemed wrong but in my excitement I let it fly...

That stung!

I got the sting set up right and we moved up stream.  The next 5 shots at least were high, high and high again.  Nate kept telling me to calm down and take my time!    :big laugh:
I finally connected on a big one.. He gave quire a fight getting him to the shore.

Nate was up next and unlike me he drilled the first two fish shot at!  This was the bigger of the two...

Here is a fun vid of one of his near miss shots... with me giving hyper instructions over his shoulder!

Good times!

Very nice! Bowfishing is addictive!
Get some arrows with the AMS slides on them or add the Slides to your arrows and you wont have to worry about snagging your hand anymore.

Hey, Tim! That's some dandy gar you guys got!     They're not bad eating, if you feel like going through the hassle of cleaning them!

A tip I learned the hard way: make sure you get ALL of the "silverskin" off of the meat when you chunk it up for nuggets. If you don't, you'll be chewing that piece 'til next season!!

I've also found that I hafta aim low for bowfishin', and the deeper they are, the lower ya hafta aim. (Refraction and all).

Looks like y'all had a great time! Sure is fun, ain't it? Congrats on the newest branch of the addiction!

P.S.- If y'all need any help with cleaning gar (or anything else), I'd be more than happy to share what little knowledge I've acquired in the last few years.
