Hello,

New member here from Wisconsin. I came to this site because I recently started reading One with the Wilderness, by Mike Mitten. I have been bowhunting for 26 years more if you count the youth hunts where I removed the suction cups from the end of my arrows and went after rabbits in my grandparents woodlot. I spent four years in the Marine Corps in the 90's and when I got out I wanted to get back into bowhunting seriously. I became a little disillusioned with what bow hunting had turned into, and so I started shooting a recurve and making my own arrows. I loved it. I hunted all through college with the recurve, but I never took a deer with it. I missed plenty. I got to the point where I felt like I didnt have the time to practice enough and also dealing with a big dose of target panic turned me toward the shotgun and bird/duck hunting. I also went back to my old compound with sights for my yearly deer hunt. I gradually got back into bowhunting more and now I feel like I need to get back into shooting traditional again. I still have a few recurves sitting around and I probably wont get to a level where I feel comfortable hunting with it this year, but who knows. I dont have any great stories of success or anything like that so I cant really contribute much expertise. I will say that I have loads of respect for anyone hunting with traditional gear. I still own and watch a copy of "Bowhunting October Whitetails" seeing Barry Wensel putting the shot on that running buck is probably the most memorable piece of video footage I have ever seen. My uncle had a copy of it that I watched probably 25 years ago when I first started hunting. There is none of the BS that I have grown to detest in todays hunting mentality just pure hunting for the joy of doing it. Anyway, good luck to everyone this season.

Great intro story!  Welcome to the Gang!

You will find a lot of great info that will help you pick it up again quickly.  Lots of great, newer technical books and dvd's out there also to help.  Do what I did when I got into Trad.  Go to some 3-D shoots or a Trad. Rendevous in your area or seek out some professional coaching at a clinic.  Its worth the time and $$ for sure!
