Prairie Drifter

I have been bugging Mike to come up w/ some takedowns and now he has. He now has a Kaliska takedown, a Machete t/d and a Prairie predator long bow t/d.

Here is the first, the Kaliska take down.
Bow is 52". Riser is "barnwood" dymondwood. Limbs are myrtle venners from Idaho Curt. Sheep horn tips and myrtle overlays on the back and belly of the riser.

Haven't had time to play w/ it too much, but first impressions are that this bow will be a shooter. Nicely balanced, smooth drawing and quick.

A confession is in order. I've made Prairie Drifter a few of these now.  This is in no way shape or form my design.  Mike, (Prairie Drifter) really likes short bows, he's enjoyed the Rocky Mountain recurves, and they aren't in production any longer.  I'm not sure the bowyer's name that made them but he was an engineering genius.  Anyhow, Mike challenged me to make these "replicas" of the rocky mtn recurves.  If anything it's helped me to get my feet wet in the realm of take down bows.  I don't like copying another's work so I changed a few things here and there.  I've not decided if it's something I want to market or not, since the craze seems to be heading toward long recurves, hybrids, and short longbows.

I just figured I'd clear this up,  the work and labor, and final product pictured is my work, but the hard part (design, testing, tweeking etc.) is the work of the guy who used to make Rockies.

Mike,
As usual you are being too modest. I see several changes(for the better I might add)from the original. About the only thing similar to me is the riser length and maybe the limb pad angles.
This bow draws smoother and feels lighter than the original. Oh, and this bow came in 4lbs heavier than the original on my scale when compared side by side.

That is a sharp looking bow.

I like the idea of of a long, takedown recurve to.

I mostly shoot recurves and they are all between 62-66".

Well, shot the bow and boy , am I impressed. I was able to tune 4 different shafts very quickly and was stacking them in there. The shafts at 10gpp were VERY quick and hit w/ a real "thump". Bow was silent and very well behaved. The mass of the riser was very stable, making it easy to shoot. Overall, a real winner.

yes, as short as that bow is the tips pretty much have to flex, if not it would simply stop at about 24".
