Have you ever had a bow that you love everything about but just can't get a feel for the grip?
I have a Toelke Chinook that was made for me last September, it is beautiful, has good performance, and very quit the only problem is after 7 months I still am having a lot of trouble finding a consistent grip and I feel this is my biggest problem with my accuracy.

If I had it to do over I think I would have went with the locator style grip rather than the classic but its to late for that now.

My question to you is how long do you stick with a bow before you decide its just not the one for you?

Have you talked to Dan about having him reshaping the grip into a locator grip for you ?

Reshape it yourself.  Go slow and test drive it as you go.  Stop when it feels good.

No I sure haven't, to be honest I did not know that would even be an option.

I had a damon howatt hunter from the 70's which I took a rasp to on the riser.

Now it fit's my hand perfectly.

Not the same bow class of bow as your's but maybe the bowyer can adjust it for you or let you know if it's wise to work on it yourself.

Contact Dan...explain your problem. I guarantee he will take the bow back and reshape the grip any way you want. If a bow feels good in your hand, you will shoot it well. The mental aspect of you not being comfortable with the grip will alter your shooting and accuracy suffers.

I would get ahold of Dan. His customer service is top notch.

Jt, I have a Toelke super D that I love. But I have a hard time with a consistent grip. I catch myself torquing the bow  a lot . I was shooting it yesterday trying different things and found the right combination of of hand placement and pressure. After shooting it most of the day with no more torquing I feel very confident  with this bow now. Don't give up.

fling I have had several times where I thought I had it figured out only to go out the next time and be trying to find it again.  Glad to hear you found what works for you.

What a lot of guys don't know is that Dan will do a beavertail or leather grip over the standard thumbrest grip, that way you have the best of both worlds.  I had him do it on the SS I recently purchased to try out.  It is a bit of work for him to
stretch the material, but he'll do it.  He always aims to please.

Hell Dan will even put a thumbrest grip on the Super D for you.  He'll literally do whatever you ask.  They take 'custom' bows seriously.

The feel of your grip should be natural bro. I would recommend sending Dan a few pictures of you at full draw from each side, and one quartered away from the back on the off side of the bow so he can see your wrist rotation and thumb.... That really helps a bowyer see what you got going on for wrist angles and adjust the thumb ledge accordingly....

How long should you give it?

I put up with an uncomfortable grip on my custom recurve for a little over a year, which was about a year too long. Yes, I took the rasp to it. Hey, it's my bow, I might as well make the grip feel right. No one else knows how it feels except me.

My next new bow was a longbow. I didn't fool around too long trying to get used to the grip. I reworked that grip within a month.

It depends on the situation and the bow whether on not I reshape the grip. There is definately a pucker factor to deal with when you make that first pass with the rasp!
