I got my tom early this morning with my Martin Savannah Stealth.  I was using a 125gr Zwickey with a 75 grain steel insert atop a Gold Tip 5575 arrow.  The birds were already talking when I parked my car before daylight.  I heard an owl hooting and the turkeys gobbled right back.  This helped getting to the right spot.  After about a mile hike I set up my jake and hen decoy and softly yelped.  I saw white flashes through the trees.  The turkey circled behind me.  They hadn't spooked, I could hear them talking.  I quickly moved my decoys and got turned around.  I popped open my umbrella blind and waited.  I clucked and the turkey gobbled, a ways aways.  I purred, and clucked. He gobbled again and was was getting closer.  I waited a few minutes and yelped very softly.  I heard him and he was close.  I saw him moving him about 80 yards and closing in.  When he saw my decoys he fluffed up and came strutting right in.  What I didn't expect was another tom to join him at about 50 yards.  The both came right in to my decoys at 20, gobbling up a storm.  I didn't have a shot.  They were so close, hitting one would have meant hitting the other on a pass through. This only lasted about 10 minutes, and they knew something was up.  The walked away, and then I yelped again.  They stopped, separated and I let an arrow rip.  It hit right were I looked, at the base of his neck. One tom hit the ground and the other showed me how fast turkeys can really run.  The only thing wrong is I cannot head out turkey hunting in the morning.

Congratulations Brent on your first traditional bow kill.  Taking a turkey gobbler with traditional gear is one tough proposition to say the least.  Congratulations again for accomplishing one of bowhuntings toughest challenges.  Here in northeastern New York, our turkey season doesn't open until May 1st.  I've been shooting my Black Widow recurve bow quite a bit out to 15 & 20 yards and am getting some nice groups.  Hopefully, I'll get to tell you about my bowkilled eastern gobbler. Your account of your turkey hunt was exciting to read about...might be a piece for Traditional Bowhunter Magazine!

Congrats man.Sounds like you had a great time. Time for Turkey dinner...

Thanks for all of the compliments.  With or without a turkey, it would have been a great morning in the woods.  The stars just happened to align for me on this particular morning. I just finished a few pieces of breast meat that I fried up with some olive oil, poultry seasoning, pepper and butter.  Now I am definitely hooked on turkey hunting. Good luck to everyone else chasing turkeys with trad gear this year.

Outstanding! You have accomplished one of the hardest thing to do in bowhunting, in my opinion. They are certainly tough for me!
