Funny, I was just thinking this morning, you guys down there must start finding them soon.  It will be at least 3 weeks before I expect to start seeing them here.

Nice Cache!

Picked 55 in the rain yesterday . It's been so dry around here in NE Kansas this year.

Got a 1" of rain yesterday they should be blowing holes in the ground this weekend. LOL

Crappie are moving up on the banks too. Not a better meal in the spring than Crappie fillets and Morels.

Awwww man!  Now I'm jonseing for some morels.  Haven't had any in dog's years!!  Sliced and sauteed in butter.  Or wrapped in ground beef like a Scotch Egg and deep fried!   Yummmmm!

Just watch out for the False Morels.  They are poisonous!!

It has been so cool here, I haven't heard of anyone finding any yet in our area.

That's a nice mess.  It's been slow here.  Very dry.  We got about a half inch of rain last night though.  Hopefully that will make them pop in the next day or two.

Bryant - good to see someone getting a great haul this early - even if it is in MO.

Dry as a bone here right now, but it should not be long!

My family has picked morels for years , but I never got to interested in them. Something about the smell of them frying I guess, maybe I got sick after eating them when I was young.

Anyway, I had not heard there was a false morel.  How do you identify them?

Slow turkey hunting this morning but my son and I found about 70 nice black sponge.  Time to get the skillet warmed up.

My turkey hunt was 'slightly' interrupted by the landowners son hunting mushrooms this morning. Not for me...
I like the million dollar cup of coffee though

false morels look nothing like the common white morel, so if you know what a white morel looks like your good to go.

this is a false morel,( big red morel)

this is another false morel,

and everybodys favorite white morel

I found around 260 this year. It was the best year ever. Have found them as early as March 15 and as late as April 20. It's usually about a two week period here when you can find them. Very tasty.
