I'm going to try crown dipping some aluminum shafts with gloss white after thinning with acetone. Can someone tell me what glue is compatible, Duco or Fletchtite? Also, if anyone has tips I'm open to learning and trying to avoid mistakes others have learned from.

I've crown dipped with Bohning products before, but I'm trying to make do with stuff from the local hardware store. Thanks for your help. Mike

I've had Duco eat into Rustoleum pretty bad before but I eventually figured it out. Let the Rustoleum dry at least a few hours between coats and a solid 48 hours before applying the fletching. Also, if you accidentally get too much Duco on the arrow, leave it alone. That stuff evens out a whole lot as it dries.

The fully dipped white arrows I just made..used Rustoleum for the bottom portion and crown dipped using Bohning so I wouldn't have any glue problems.
My friend does the same however he uses the Water Base acrylic on top portion and fletch Tite works well also.

I also use Rustoleum for my crown dips and have never had a problem using fletch tape.

I use spray paint for "dip" BUT I then spray  with water base polyurethane and have no glue eating paint problems

I've also used rustoleum for crowns, then used either the Massey finish or spar urethane over it. Duco works great on top of either.

Thanks for the responses.  So Duco will work over the Rustoleom as long as it is properly dried.

Rustoleum thinned with Acetone?

I never used duco straight on rustoleum always used finish over it!!

Yup...for me at least. A couple good coats and let the Duco do it's thing. I've messed up a few trying to wipe off excess glue. I actually use a kitten feeding syringe so I can be accurate with the Duco.

I always put a couple of coats of water based Poly over the Rustoleum and have never had problems with Fletch tape or Duco

By using a white primer coat first, I found my main colors, especially yellow, seemed brighter.  I know fletch tape works just fine.

I have had great results with oil based rustoluem and Duco.
