When refinishing a bow how do you fill the holes in the riser in the black fiberglass?

Thanks for the advice,

I've used, the stuff that's used to repair stoves and ovens.
Yes I don't know what it's called found at lowes and Home Depot.
It's just a chip repair. Works incredible.

For a real good explanation check the history thread.

David,  I have used Superglue in the past. Then painted it to match the black glass.  It still showed but wasn't as bad.

I had to apply the super glue several times until the hole was filled.

I'm not sure this was the best way but it seemed to work.

Good luck on your project

JB Weld..grey anyway..then black magic marker ..then a dab of polyu. If you can, mask off the hole with tape, and wipe excess JB before it sets up.

I stuff the hole with cotton or a wood dowel so you don't have so deep of a hole. Then mix model paint in the appropriate color and two part epoxy. Overfill hole, sand flush after it is completely dry and finish with a couple coats of poly.

You might find some things in this thread helpful.  I did it a while back and got lots of good advice, then posted what worked for me.

I use two part 5 minute epoxy with india ink mixed in it. Then over fill and sand. No paint fade this way and it will always be black, even if it is scratched.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

The makers of EA-40 epoxy also make different stains that are compatable with the glue.  One or two drops per 6 oz glue pot will be pretty dark.  darken to taste from there.

Take some 2 part epoxy and turquoise dust mixed together to add a little pizazz to the riser.

Black paint mixed with epoxy works great!  Just overfill, sand smooth, and polish.

I use the epoxy and color it with artist pastels.  Black, white, and everything in between.

One trick is to use a counter sink drill bit to ream out the edges of the hole a little bit.  Just hold the bit between your fingers and twist it by hand.  It really helps to make a smoother transition from fiberglass to filler.
