I've been working at getting a trip set up to go hog hunting this year and finally got in contact with the right people.  I'll be heading to Texarkana around the end of June to try out my first hog hunt!  I'm stoked!  So now I'm wondering what I need to prepare for other than some warmer temps.  I've never been in this area before, and I've never hunted feral pigs.

What should I prepare for?  How should I pack, if I'm planning on bringing home some meat?  How the heck do I hunt these things?!

Ready, go!

First and foremost,  congrats on getting that set up.  You should have a great time.

Bunches of others will voice in on what to take, I want to say one thing... remember to smell the roses.

The hunt is new to you and should be more than just killing a pig.  Lots to see, and hear, new methods to learn, new friends to meet.  Take pix, enjoy each day for what it is, and maybe... bring home some bacon too.

I'm def planning on that too, Chuck.  There's probably going to be three of us, just spending a week primitive camping and bowhunting.  I'm more excited about spending some "man" time in the woods, but getting the chance to take a few hogs is just the icing on the cake!

I guess I'm wondering more about supplies and dress more than anything.  It sounds like the land we're hunting on is right on the river (not sure which one - maybe the Red River?).  I don't know if I should bring some rubber boots, moccasins, camo, war paint, what?

I'm planning on taking as many pics as I can and hopefully have a story to go along with them to share on here too!  ;)

Best of luck to you.  I did my first hog hunt this spring in West Texas with the Wenzel brothers.  My equipment was what I use for whitetails and it worked very well.  hunted from a natural ground blind, need to bring pruners and a good stool.  Also had a hole dug that we put corn in that set the pigs up for a good broadside shot.  Shoot straight and have fun.
