I am building my first bow a  TD longbow. Need a string for it I ordered one from AS this morning, have his strings on all my bows. But got to thinking since I am building the bow shouldn't i make a string for it. I have watched videos and it seems rather complicated, but many say it is not so hard to make a string   Anyway, does anyone around the middle or upstate of SC make strings and be willing to show me how. If so PM me and we can see if we can get together. I think I have the materials I need

I'm in hartsville, down near Florence. Where are you located ?

MCNSC

I am in Southern Greenville county. Florence would be a pretty good drive!  Thanks though

Have you checked out the "How to build a great bowstring" DVD available from 3Rivers?  Does a heck of a job of showing you how to do it.  I only have a handful of string under my belt, but they shoot quieter than any mass produced bowstring I've ever purchased.

Definitely worth buying the video and the materials if you'll be building bows.  that's what put me over the edge too.  Start building and you need strings on a regular basis.  Way cheaper to build them than buy them.

I think I will make a string board and after watching some more tutorials have a go at it. Maybe I can figure it out with some string and a board in front of me. Did get an offer to help but still a 1 1/2 hour drive. If I can't figure it out May have to do a road trip.
Thanks for the replies and help

Mike, give me a call any time if you have any questions once you get started.

I should get to your string tomorrow.

I hear that one is pretty good.    :D

If you get or have the video and have any questions about it, feel free to holler.  I also have a bunch of cheap string material listed on the sponsor's classifieds, and a bunch more that I haven't had time to sort through that I'll sell cheap.

I learned from Chad's first string video "doing the twist", was not hard at all and after a couple more tries they started to come out real nice. So Get the video well worth it. I am way down in Myrtle Beach so to far for you.
