I have done it several times. I flew once and had a bad experience with a layover and gear.  Driving from NC takes  two days and your beat by the time you get there.

I'm driving 2,200 miles to Alberta to hunt moose this fall.

Also driving 1,300 miles to bear hunt in New Brunswick in June.

I've done 1,500-1,600 for elk in Co and WY 4 times.

Wayne,   I hiked some rough wilderness yesterday with the dogs. Still a bunch of snow in places but it is melting.  15 mores days to put in for the draw.

I drive 8 hours to the NE corner of Nevada, and I live in Reno!  Everything is far away here.

24 hours of driving for me but always bring a buddy or two along to share in the driving task and split expenses.

I'll be driving, alone or with a partner, that shall be determined later.  I just drove nearly 1,000 miles each way for a hog hunt in Georgia this January and I will do it again.  Had a great time.

Driving gives you a lot of time for reflection and thought.

I have to drive to the neighboring county, does that count?

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

I'd rather fly to Alberta but I don't know how to deal with 1-2 moose if my buddy and I connect.

ChuckC

I have often pondered that point.  Now what do I do !

My brothers and I always drive when we go hunt out west.  For years we headed out to Colorado for Elk and Deer, taking a 12 X 16 wall tent, and drove as far back in the boonies as we could.  We have also made trips to New Mexico, Wyoming, and Montana chasing Deer, Elk, Antelope, and upland game.

From my experience and perspective driving is the only way to go.  Hunting the animals are just one part of the overall memories we make.

I'll be driving to the Oregon coast in 2015.  It will be with my best friends, so I'm not dreading it at all.

Driving is all part of the trip to me.  Granted,  it's much easier now that I am retired and don't have to push it like I used to.  But even when I worked I much preferred to drive.  Flying and all the hassles associated with it take up a good day on each end of the trip anyway.

We do it. Drive from Arkansas to Siverthorne, CO. Spend the night then on to Steamboat the next morning. Hike into camp by mid afternoon. We also have three folks (this year 4) to share in driving duties so it's not too bad.

Yepper.  Driven to CO many times.  Doing it again this year.  Driving to KS to hunt whitetails at 18hrs is nothing compared to the drive to CO.

I did it last year, solo from Miami to Utah 3 days 2400 miles of hard driving each way.  I agree with Whip it's part of the fun, but will think twice about doing it again by myself.
