I was thinking of cutting a small slit on my awesome GFA wool pullover so I can wear my treestand harness under. This way I have no issues dressing at the car with the harness then Walk in, climb up, cool off and put on my pullover. Also my harness won't interfer w/ the great pockets on my pullover.

Would the wool fray? Should I add a patch or something to prevent fraying?  Curious if anyone has done this and suggestions

I always wear my over, what if you have to take it off or cut it off heaven forbid you fall.

I would think you would at least need some zig zag stitching around the slit to keep it from getting bigger or wearing.

I did it to one of mine. I just took a needle and thread and stitched around the slit to reinforce it. No problems.

I just run it out the neck.  My pullover has a generous cut in the (front) neck area (it is not snug) and I do exactly as you are saying.  I have had no problems so far.

A simple blanket stitch with wool yarn will work.

I just looked at mine. It's a few years since I made the slit and no fraying. I used the waxed artificial sinew....probably because that's what I had handy, but I like the way it worked out. A very durable edge.

What Chuck said.  Been doing that for several years and never had a problem.

I do that if I'm wearing a vest over the pullover....I put the safety harness on over my pullover, vest over that, and tether out the neck. But if the pullover or zippered jacket is my main garment, that tether at the back of my neck just irritates the heck out of me.

Chuck- are you saying you just run the tether throught the neck?  Problem is can't use the hood which I love and mentioned below the teether running against your neck

The other thing you must check when putting the pullover over the harness and out the neck is what happens if you fall. Does the strap create a choke hold effect with the front of the pullover. I think it could.

This could occur to even a greater degree with the hole in the back.

That's a pretty good observation.

I THINK the garment would tear, or the neck hole is big enough that my head would slip though. But sure as heck I'm not going to try it out. You may very well be right on that.
