Earlier in the year this nice woman at the post office told me her son had a bow and wanted to bow hunt.  She told me her husband does not hunt, but that her brother in law was going to take him hunting.  I piped up that I would be glad to take him.  After a few phone calls we finaly hooked up Friday morning, he was out of school and I skipped my real job that morning (don't tell my boss),  Anyway I have 5 stands up at the place I hunt, I picked what I consider on of the best and took him to it before daylight on Friday.  After I put him 15ft up in the stand, got him strapped in the safety belt, he then tells me this is first time hunting.  Needless to say he saw 2 deer and he tagged along on Saturday and Sunday morning.  On Sunday he got a shot, but missed.  I think he is hooked.  I am guessing between now and Jan 15th, he may be with me every step of the way.  Today we talked about how we are both novices.  He is a new hunter, and I have never taught anyone to hunt so we are learning together.  So folks, take a kid hunting its a blast.  My daughter will turn 6 next year and will be eligible for the youth turkey and youth firearms season and I can't wait.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

There is always someone that knows more than you, and someone that knows less than you, so you can always learn and you can always teach

Isn't it amazing how things still work out this day and age.

My father, who has taught hunter education, and firearms safety for over forty years, stated in his retirement statement, " I have met VERY few bad kids, in my time. Sadly, I have met a lot of very bad parents!"

Hats off to all those who take the time, to take a kid hunting. What better way to keep them off the streets, and show them that drugs/booze etc are not needed to have a good time.

The youth who spend time with others, hunting, fishing, trapping, and hiking, learn the beauty of nature, and enjoyment of natures solitudes. They also learn the virtues of patience (even if they can't be patient   )

And, funny enough, when adults spend a goodly amount of time with young people, respect grows between, and towards both.

And when one repects someone, nothing but good can come of such a relationship.

You have done a good deed, Onestringer!     :clapper:

Onestringer, it definitely does your heart some good, doesn't it? The look on a childs face after a close call is priceless. Thanks for doing the right thing. Keep up the good work!!!
