This is not a bash expensive gear thread. I checked out some sitka gear today and was very impressed. Just not in the budget right now.
I want to be able to cover some ground wearing it here in wet Western WA. Ventilation is a must.
Looking for the best rain gear under $300 I can get. Somebody mention frog togg. Any good? Any suggestions.

About five years ago I went into a GoodWill store one day out of boredom. I lucked up up and found two sets of GORE-TEX rain gear (jacket and pants). I bought both sets for around 30 dollars total. I gave the smaller set away because it didn't fit me.

I'm still wearing my set to this day in wet and nasty weather.  I'm not saying you can find one every time you go into a GoodWill. But my set is army surplus in woodland green camo. I'm sure it could be found cheap at army surplus stores.

I've got 15 bucks in mine. It has yet to leak. Great stuff...although a little noisy while on the move.

I have had good luck with a cheap Gander Mountain rain suit. I've tried Frogg Togg but the Gander Mtn suit is hard to beat.

The issued Gore-Tex stuff is really nice too. Check out the Ft Lewis Bookoo site. It's kinda like Craigslist for the military base. There's always extra gear floating around there.

I had that issued military goretex when I was in. Noisy stuff but kept you dry.

I've been using the Marmot Precip rain gear with excellent results for years.

Helly Hansen is good gear that don't cost to much

cabelas space rain

The Helly Hansen is great for heavy rain if your not exerting yourself as it doesn't breath at all.
I like the cabelas space rain the best. It folds up really small. I wore the space rain during an hour long boat ride in a heavy downpour and was completely dry at the end.
Frogg Toggs are ok for the price. Downside is they're not very durable, noisy, and it doesn't take long for water to start seeping through

X2 for the Marmot precip.

go into Cabala's bargain Cave and get some space rain gear on sale, Light weight, tough, semi quite.  Mine have been up the mountain of coastal BC several time and on some dense forest elk hunts.  100 per piece reg, on sale I've seen it half of this.

300 is enough for the Sitka rain gear outfit I bought and highly recommend.

I don't think I paid much more than 300 for the Sitka downpour jacket and pants, maybe 250, I can not remember. For years I used Gander Mountain tech h2o stuff, worked great, really inexpensive and was quiet, fuzzy like material, never noisy. Not more than 150 bucks.
Rain gear story for you, out hunting and it rained more and more, finally after 3 hours it became a complete downpour, I decided to head for the vehicle and pack up. Put my hood over my head, big floppy hood and was putting my stand away (wolf hang on with ladders) . I could see nothing but the stand the hood was so large and then A huge blow from a deer right next to me, I jumped up after grabbing my heart and removed my hood, it was raining so hard I never saw it-ha! Don't use the hood!
I have seen the frog togg stuff, it looks like it would be really noisy if rain hit it.

I just bought a like new set of goretex rain gear very light and packable used on archery talk for 60 bucks shipped to my house.

Top was 17 oz bottoms 13oz very quite comparable and light  like sitka and core4element.

The stuff I got was made by sportsmans warehouse 3 years ago.

So check used stuff on forums, depending on your size lots of core4 element torrent rain gear out there for sale, most Xl u could get a set of 150 maybe cheaper.

If you want to stay dry Helly Hansen. I guess if your not spending very much time in the rain gortex will work

Where are you guys seeing sitka for less than 500 bucks a set?

I always try sponsor's first; when that does not work -go elsewhere I got mine on amazon.

Cabela's Space Rain is great stuff, especially if you want rain gear you can pack that is super lightweight and more importantly, quiet enough to hunt in.  You should be able to get a set for significantly less than $300.
