Yes Bernie, I usually take a nap from about midnight till 0600..then get up to a house full of **** rasin' kids. Ok let me try to finish this up. I make my way up to the top of one of the dams. It's like being in a tunnel with overhanging hackberry and cottonwoods. The turkey flock, about 30, is moving into the bottom slowly. I have no real thoughts of trying for one at first. Too many eyes and they are 50 yards away. I'm just taking it in, watching them catch night chilled grasshoppers and chase each other around. They slowly establish a direction of movement..I start thinking maybe I could get close enough to where it looks like they are going to come out of the bottom..

They are moving to the northwest, looks like they wil come out through an area that has quite a bit of fallen trees and limbs. I move in that direction along the top of the dam, shielded by the thick growth. I get to the last good cover, a hackberry tree, thats about 25 yards from them. The turkeys are starting to move single file through the deadfalls, at one point they hop over one log, pause, then hop over another.

Bummer, story went over my 12 hour time limit   :(   Hope it turns out well

25 yards is pushing my range on any game, muchless a turkey. I make the decision to go for it, thinking it will be a clean miss or a kill. I loose as one pauses between the logs..clean miss just low. No reaction from the birds they keep to their travels. Arrow number two...same results. OK last of my three arrows..one of those shots that seems to move in slow motion..arrow spinning to a "perfect" hit near the wing base. The bird jumps and kinda' squawks..then continues moving with the flock.

I followed the flock at a distance, I really thought I would find the hit bird at anytime. The bloodtrail gaveout.

Had to leave at that point to go get my youngest from preschool. We got back home and loaded up on the 4wheeler with dog Osage. I got Osage following the turkeys and kept letting him sniff the pass thru arrow. He liked following the flock and eatting the turkey droppings. After a couple hundred yards he turned left and got excited..I had previously walked within about two yards of the bird..
