We are staying near Naples,FL and will be here for another 6 weeks. last year when we were here a mechanic that worked on my truck and I were talking bowhunting. He said the bowfishing was great for tilapia in early spring and he usually filled his freezer every year. I brought along my bowfishing rig this year and am looking to try for some as I like eating them. My question is, is there anyone in the area that would suggest some good areas on where to find them?

Hey Bill, I do hope you get into the Tilapia. Tilapia is also one of my favorite fish that I like to eat. Bring some to Cincy and we will have a feast(LOL). Anyhow my friend enjoy yourself and have a great time in Florida. Shoot Straight and Good Hunting. Lord willing I'll see you in Cincinatti next month.

Thanks Tony and Elmer! The fellow told me the canals were the place to go but the canals that I have checked are pretty shallow and don't have any fish or are too brackish to be able see them.

Bill, did you get into any with Jim and Irv?  I had a bunch of shots at them and gar, I got a few, but missed way more than I hit.  The water was murky, but you could still see them when they came up to the top.

Didn't try any bowfishing while with them Sean. Guess we were too busy BS'n when not hunting hogs!  :)

You Southern Bowfishermen need to post more pictures so us Nothern Bowfishing men can dream and drool more.

Except for last night's 3-hour deluge, the water here in Fort Myers is still too low for the places where I bowfish Tilapia.  I have permission to 'hunt' a few ponds on gated communities, and was at one place two weeks ago collecting a bushel of Meyer Lemons from a friend's bush, to turn into marmalade.  Her ponds were still a couple feet too low -- the Tilapia nests were still on dry land!  Although we had a massively wet summer, this winter has been pretty dry and darn chilly -- both factors which inhibit Tilapia hunting.

Been hunting them up here in Port Charlotte area. The water is murky and they are not on the beds but I have taken a few when they come to the top or cruise by.
