Several months back, someone posted about using hemp or jute or some other natural fiber to wrap the grip of his longbow.  I've done searches under every combination of terms I could think of, but haven't found what I'm looking for.  Anyone else remember that thread?

I can't point you to any thread. I like using the jute it comes in tan or green at Wally World.

After wrapping the handle area I use a Massey finish. Mix equal parts of epoxy with acetone. Will be like water. I brush this over the jute, makes it somewhat water proof.
It makes a very good non slip handle.

I agree with Macbow on the non-slip.  I use super glue to finish mine.

Interesting.  I have a 59 Bear Alaskan with a torn leather grip, and I might have a Hickory selfbow on the way that will need a grip. I was thinking leather, but jute is an interesting option.

I wrap the handles of my self bows with hemp cord from wally world and then soak it with alcohol diluted epoxy mixture. Keeps handle waterproof and from moving.      

This is my favorite handle wrap. Hemp cordage from WalMart saturated with Massey finish. It give a positive grip in any weather conditions...plus it is cheap and easy and comes in tan and brown.

I like cheap and simple when I can, Fritz. I never liked a leather handle wrap for a hunting bow because when it gets wet it gets slick. These cordage wraps seems to be the perfect substitution.
