So I thought I would give everyone a tour of some of the different terrain these little gals and guys inhabit.  The roads less traveled by.  Like all prey the fewer other hunters the better your chances.

You can find them in all 3 major types of terrain/vegetation stories.  Low desert 2000' to 4000',[I have killed some that were stuffed with cholla fruit] When I was new to this country I used to wonder how they avoided the stickers when they ran off.  After I killed my first one and skinned it out I realized they don't.  Its just the cost of doing business. Chaparal [which is oaks and manzanit]4000' to 6000', and Ponderosa/Doug fir 6000' to 10,000'

Really cool country.......looks like a great place to wander.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Michael that is some rugged country I had the pleasure of chasing them in the North end of Huachuca Mountains I seen tons of them. Most well out of bow range. (I was a wheelie guy then). I did have one good buck with in range and never seen him. I practiced drawing on a doe and he jumped up and took off at 15yrds from behind some brush.

But thanks for sharing that wonderful country.

Thanks Michael! Beautiful country and wildly varied. I would love to chase those critters some day!

You have running water for one of three reasons: 1.) It has snowed. 2.) It has rained. 3.) You are up high.  Almost all of the island mountains have at least one drainage with more or less permanet water.  It is one of the keys when looking for game.  You have to learn how to approach it so as not to spook everything.  Wind, time of day, feed, season.

Can you spot the Coues?  Just a little idea of what you look for.  They aren't real big.
