In order to transport my recurve in the car it has to be taken down. How do you go about preserving the twist in the string so you don't have to keep playing with the brace height?

I remove the string and stick one end through the other so it won't unwind.

I've used the twist tie from a bread bag. Just put it through the loops and give it a twist.

Of course... if you just slide the string down off the top noc and use a tip protector on the bottom... it won't go anywhere.

put a tip protector on the lower limb so the string does not come loose.

That's how I would do it too, but I question why you think it has to be taken down. I believe in MI it has to be unstrung or in a case. Guys sure don't "take down" their wheelies. I usually just unstring mine and slip it in a sock to keep it from getting scratched up.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Just unstrung, the bow does not fit in the trunk, so I take it down and put it in a case.

I just use a paperclip.

Got one even more simple, put both loops over the same limb tip.

I have the same problem. My hunting rig is a 2dr audi TT ... it's liek 1 step better than tryingt o put a deer in the trunk of a miata.

My bow is either a takedown, seats get folded down, or it has to ride in the front seat .... a major problem when my fiancee is in the car haha

I have the best solution of all: I drive a truck!      

I'm just wondering where you guys who don't have room in your "hunting rig" for your bow put the critters that you kill. Do you quarter them in the field or do you just stick with small game?

At this point in my life, I'm very lucky. I walk out the back door and go hunting using my feet as a vehicle and carrying my bow in my hand. When I shoot something, I go back to the house and get the tractor and loader. I haul it back to the shop, hang my deer from the loader, wash it out with a hose, skin, butcher, cut, grind, package, freeze, done! I never have to leave my own place.

30coupe, I don't have a "hunting rig", and I am not looking to hunt any game, I took up shooting for something to do until the snow melts and the golf courses open. I too, am very lucky, I step out my back door onto the golf course. Best of luck to you, good hunting!

Kip, please explain.

masterj, it is called archery golf, but you have to play it where it is permitted.  You shoot arrows from the tee toward the hole instead of hitting a ball.  Instead of holing the shot you usually have to hit a tennis ball set up on a tee of some sort. It a fun game to play where allowed.  Really dedicated players develop many different arrows with very low cut fletch for longer shots, high cut fletch for sorter approach shots to more easily lob them in(think wedge or 9 iron). It can be played on a golf course but that isn't necessary--a large open field will do just as well with designated areas for "tee shots" and greens to shoot for.

Okay. You do realize you are hanging out at a traditional bow hunting site, right? Nobody here will kick you out for not hunting, but that's primarily what we discuss here.

I kind of gave up golf when I got back into bow hunting. I'm way better with a bow than I am with a set of golf clubs, though I do think I have a set around here somewhere.    :rolleyes:  

I lived on the edge of a golf course too once. I find that I like living on the edge of the woods a lot better. I hear far less cursing than I did on the golf course...okay some of it was probably coming from me.      

Launching arrows, whether at a stump, a target, or a critter is way more relaxing for me. In fact, just sitting in the woods without taking a shot is a great stress reliever for me.

To answer your question about the bow string, If you can get by just taking the bottom limb off, put a tip protector on it then just slide the string down the top limb. I'd do the same if you have to take it completely apart. Your brace height shouldn't change that way.

If you get tired of chasing a little white ball, you might give bow hunting a try.

You are dead on about the less stress and cursing. I must have a personality defect that makes me think I could ever be a good golfer, doesn't stop me from trying. I have many more days available for golf than hunting.

Here in MI all you need to do is have it in a case/sock.
You don't have to have it unstrung...or in the trunk.

I just have a thin piece of material that my wife was nice enough to sew up for me...kinda like a long narrow pillow case.

Slide my bow in there strung and put it in the cab.
Legal and easy buddy.
