Went from three under to split. Always shooting high now unless a focus on holding low but then I think I become somewhat of a gap shooter rather than instinctive. Is this an anchor point issue ? Thanks Guys

I'd say no. I'd say you need to reprogram your brain for split. GIve it time. Start at short ranges (10-12 yards) and let it work itself out.

If you anchor in the exact same position split as you did when you shot three under, then it is an anchor point issue.  If you anchor in exactly the same position, a split finger grip on the string actually lowers the nock end of the arrow on your face. That causes the arrow to shoot higher.

Should be able to overcome it with a little practice.  Your brain will reprogram for the different trajectory.  Or, can just raise your anchor point (one finger distance) when you shoot split.

I'm assuming you were anchoring the index finger with three under. With split if you anchor your bird finger you will be real close with the same sight picture. If you want to keep index finger anchor you will have to retrain your brain. Stay with it it'll come around.

Well if you are anchoring the same then I feel this is normal for 'aimers'. The arrow shaft/point might be what you are concentrating on in your peripheral vision and it will throw an arrow higher. BTW that is why I switched to split; to shoot longer distances.


I cant speak for 'instinctive' shooters.  When I switched from three under to spit my arrows were high for a bit of time until I adjusted my aiming method.....I still get fliers though    

Yes, bump up your anchor to middle finger and you will adjust pretty quickly. I know a couple of guys who anchor even higher.

I think that's a pretty common outcome when going from three under to split or vice versa, unless you change your anchor points like the guys said above.

I shoot split but have spent quite a bit of time with three under too (I keep the same anchor points).  I find three under more "natural" for closer distances and split more "natural" for slightly longer distances.  Much as I like split finger I struggle with shooting high until the range gets out past 12-15 yards or so.  Everything's a compromise.

When I try to go split I shoot waaaaaay high with the same anchor. So I stay with three under, I'm to old to retrain myself......lol!
