I really don't know where to put this question but here goes. Is there such a product as scentfree or unflavored toothpaste? at present I use baking soda and water.

Breathe through your nose and don't worry about it. If they can smell your toothpaste they've smelled plenty of other things on you already.

you CAN buy Dead Downwind breath spray or some of those other things on the market

Dead Down Wind makes a toothpaste,not bad tasting either..................

Okay, I don't mean to be insulting, but you may be watching too much television. I don't think what you use for toothpaste makes a nickel's worth of difference to the deer. My cousin smokes cigarettes and chews snuff in the stand, we both drink coffee before hitting the woods (sometimes while we are there), and I have been known to suck on cough drops (black cherry or honey-lemon) while on stand. None of these things seem to have any effect on the deer what-so-ever.

If you are really worried, breath through your nose.

Seriously man, if the wind is in your face, the deer aren't smelling your breath.

During the hunting season, I stay away from garlic, onions and spicy foods in general. But, make fun, if you will. I believe Gum-o-flage, and Dead down wind breath spray help reduce (alot) ordinary mouth odors. I quit smoking years ago, so I can't say it helps that. Odors do come out as you breath, seems an inexpensive way to try to be scent-free. The wind does switch from time to time !

Hey, if you think it works and want to spend your money on it, far be it from me to make fun of you. It's all part of the mental aspect I guess. If it makes you feel more confident, it's probably worth it. Just pardon me for being skeptical.

I also think the area you hunt may make a difference. There are so many humans and human odors around Iowa, I'm not sure the deer pay as much attention as they might in a big timber, remote area.

my wife has a mint garden in front of the house so when i go out to my truck i grab a couple stems of mint and chew on them.   taste good and its a natural smell

When I was a kid, Mom bought tooth powder not paste.. Put a small amount in the palm of your hand  and with a wet brush, pick some up... When we ran out of tooth powder we used baking soda... Hey there's and idea.

I know it's good sport to bash anyone on here or the *********** for apparently wanting to spend money on something that someone else thinks isn't needed.  Fine.  

But we've all worked or played athletics with someone whose breath or body odor was just rank.  You're kidding yourself if you don't think a deer can detect at 20 to 100 yards or more an odor that you can smell at 5-10'.

Does that mean you have to have unscented toothpaste?  I don't know.  But I'd certainly think good breath/hygiene would be a factor.  And if you're still wearing cologne in the fall, or some kind of scented deodorant...all I've got to say is good luck.  Yeah, I play the wind too, but you've got to watch your own scent for the best effect.  Plus, even with the wind in your face, there are eddies and areas where the actual air currents are going directly into the wind.  I don't freak out about that and basically just rely on common sense, but I do think that body odors are a huge deterrent to many hunters being more successful than they are.

I keep a piece of sassafras candy in my mouth while on stand  ............. natural odor  ......
