Thinking about fletching a few 4".

Who uses em? Thoughts, opinions,noise? Pics!

I really like them.  I use the 5 and 5.5 feathers.  They really work good, some seem to have a little noise.  I just shoot for fun alot more than I hunt so noise is not a problem, besides I kind of like a cool whoosh sound wnen I'm stumping.

I chopped some 5" a few years back.  Need to move them a little more forward when fletching, the trailing edge of the feather touched my face and was distracting.  That trailing edge also greats noise in flight.  I still have some and shoot them but not hunting.  They work as well as any other fletch I've used and they have that traditional look.

The raptor cut provides the best steerage of any feather cut I've used.  They do make some noise, but only the most wired critters will likely notice.  i've shot a few critters with them (no deer) and I've never had the noise bother the criter.  The broadhead certainly did, but not the feather noise.

not to steal or steer away from this thread but what exactly is a raptor cut feather? yall have me curious now as i am always looking for new things to learn about  :D

If your tuned well and tour form is decent, all feather cuts are about the same.  Raptors are much better at masking tuning issues or form problems imo because they have more area and are taller, giving them more leverage.  I fletched that arrow with them because i wasnt happy with my bh flight and didnt have time to build and tune new arrows.

Ted calls it the "hiss of death"!  

I prefer the 4" to the 5", just looks better to my eye, but either works well and is a bit different to what most other archers use.
