My name is Jono from Sydney Australia.

I have been shooting longbow for about 6 months, shooting abit of recurve before that.

I only shot low range production bow like samick/wolf custom etc.

Recently, I am looking to change my longbow between bear montana and martin savannah, I heard alot of good comments between both (more on savannah) or Maddog bow ???

But over here in Sydney, a montana will cost me 500+ while savannah will cost me 700+ ...

Additionally, I have really bad issues with string plucking, my wrist are straight, deep hook, 2nd anchor point follow thru.

I shoot 30# cause its more challenging (do have a 55#) with wooden arrow.

So bottom line is that, which bow would be the best for three finger under glove shooter ?

I don't own a Savannah but I have shot a few and I really don't think it is really any better of a bow then the Montana. The Montana is a really stable, smooth drawing, shock free bow that is really tough as well. It's a great hunting bow because it is so stable and tough enough to hold up to shots that end up with a limb hitting the stand or what I am using mine now for bowfishing. All in all you can't go wrong with a Montana.

Either will work fine......just don't jump up to much in poundage to quick......work your way up!

I would go with the Maddog. Because it's custom, you just can't beat a custom bow! I have owned 2 Savannah's, and 1 Montana. Like I said, you can't beat a custom bow!

Maddog is the way to go...better bow, to your specs,very comparible costs and personal service.    

With a Maddog you can get a thumbrest grip which is the single best option for grip consistency and accuracy.

No doubt Mike makes a great bow! If you have something specific you want in a bow custom is the way to go. As far as the other two goes I do prefer shooting the bear, it's a little longer and smoother. I think the Martin has a little more snap.

I was out shooting my dual shelf Prairie Predator today in the low temps. I have not shot a Montana or a Savannah, but the Prairie Predator is a mighty fine bow and it was hitting quite accurately for me even out to 25 yards. I usually practice at 15. If the handle was just a tad larger it would fit me better, but a leather wrap will take care of that.

I'd say Maddog. Mike is a great bowyer with customer service at the top of his list.

Maddog simply because you're dealing with the guy making the bow for you, however you want it.

go with the Maddog. for the same price or less (depending on shipping) you can get a custom bow that is worked out to your specs.

Can't go wrong with one of Mike's bows.

IMO a custom bow will do nothing more than an off the shelf bow.
90% of the time its the man behind the bow, not the bow
With that being said custom is custom to your wishes.

And how many custom bows have you owned?

I've owned a Montana and a savannah. Both shoot good but the Montana seemed to scratch a lot easier. Anything I bumped it against left mark.  Not so with the savannah. The savannah is also a lot prettier. Don't know about mad dog.

I would go with the custom bow simply because it can be built to your specs.  Quality control is better also

I had a chance to shoot a 60" Maddog Prairie Predator earlier in the week. On Maddog's website it's advertised as "a favorite for ladies, youths and other adults with a short draw length". I have about a 29" draw and didn't notice any stack. The bow was lightning fast, with no hand shock. I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on a Maddog.

same here. i draw over 28" and i shoot mine just fine, with no stacking.
