I'm looking to try try aluminum arrows for the first time and would like some advice from the gang!

I'm shooting a pittsley predator recurve, 57# at my 30.5" draw.

Which aluminum shaft would you recommend? 3rivers chart makes me think a 2216 would be a good place to start. Does that sound about right?

depending on your point weight, a 2216 is gonna be pretty close, but with that long draw and a heavier head, you might need as stiff as a 2219... i shoot a 60 @28 widow and 28 1/4" 2020's with 175 gr head work really well..2216's are a little stiff

I would think a 2216 would be close, and my next choice is a 2117.  

However, you did not mention point weight.  If shooting 175gr. at that length, Dave may be closer.

Best deal is to try a couple first.

I would be shooting 2020s.  Mine are 30 1/8 BOP with 175 to 200 grain heads and they fly good out of my 56 or 60# Silvertips.

Sorry I didn't mention point weight. I'm really not concerned with it. I've got a bunch of 125gr field points and broadheads, but if i need to go heavier that'd be fine. Just want to make sure i find something that flies well. Might need to invest in a test kit. . .

I MHO you should try a test kit like mentioned. Your long draw will be the most important factor for point weights like 125 and 145.
I guess your bow is cut pretty much center? The closer to center the easier to tune and the stiffer the arrow size can be. This is an another reason to try the test kit.

I think most of the sizes suggested might be a bit and 2020 are going to be tough to find on top of it because Easton doesn't make them anymore. I think a 2018 is the best choice for 60ish pound bows.

They dont make 2020 anymore? I order them quite often from 3 rivers. I think they would be close with a 125gr head

I would go with the 2020 shaft and a heavy head this is a very strong shaft.  

in my experience Alum arrows are influenced greatly by the size head you plan to use.  Determining how many grains you plan to use on the front end first will help you determine the proper shaft.

Thanks guys! i just picked up some 2117's of the classifieds to try out of my longbow, and am going to order some 2020's to play with for the recurve.

If you find xx75s are too short for your needs, you can get 2117 xx78s full length at 33".

Yeah, the 2117's i have coming are legacy's that are 31.5 from valley of nock to back of point.

one thing's for sure, at 13.5gpi and a 31.5" arrow, it wont be tough to get a nice heavy arrow!

My Predator draws about 63# at my 28" draw. I shoot 2117's cut to 28 3/4" with a 50gr insert and 125-145gr field pts/bh's. They fly really well from my bow. However I have never bare shafted these, picked them up really cheap and gave them a try.

They should. The 2117 is a very versatile shaft.

2315's will work fine.
