Either way... I'm a lot more successful than I had previously thought. Lots of preparation, time in the woods and shooting.

Hmmm.... the poster Mike gave me and hand wrote on it says "proportion". Maybe somewhere along the line he changed things up?

I used the same quote many years ago in a series of continuing education presentations for hunter education instructors.  I believe the original was "The true hunter measures success in proportion to his effort."  If I recall correctly, my source credited Saxton Pope.

I had the wording slightly wrong, but it seems clear that the sentiment should, indeed, be attributed to Saxton Pope.  From the home page of the Pope and Young Club:

"The true hunter counts his achievement in proportion to the effort involved and the fairness of the sport."

Huh, Here I bought a gadget to measure success.  Its in my bag of tricks next to the whiz bang deer magnet.
