...... Is that deer hunting is too serious. I mean, sometimes it seems like work. Don't get me wrong, I dig it a lot. Just that small game is so much fun! No Pressure! Great social day in the woods. What say you?

Know what you mean,Mike.I love chasing deer and everything that goes with it,but like small game for all the reasons you mentioned. It's just good fun,no pressure and if you miss it's no big whoop. You tend to get a lot more shots, too.

Thats why I set up my tree stand and shoot squirrels.  Its a bunch of fun, helps tune you up for the chance at a big buck and also makes for a nice stew.

Started hunting a new spot this year for deer and made a executive decision the other evening while sitting the stand...... The skwerls must go.......  :banghead:

Several times this year I would almost laugh out loud at the amount of noise they would make. I have about 10-15 of them right around my tree and a den tree about 10yds away. It sounds like a sawmill here ! I had deer sneak in on my several times cause I could not hear them for the "Skwerl Sawmill ".

I do not small game hunt anymore but as soon as deer season closes next weekend I am headed in to pull stands and try my hand at them with some judos and flu flus........  :archer2:

I have to agree.  Sometimes I can't wait for deer season to be over so I can have fun shooting.  Stumps, squirrels or what ever.

I know what your saying brutha but anytime a fella feels like deer hunting is like work, he's going about it all wrong.

We have to be careful to keep the competitive human nature out of any kind of hunting if we are hunting for the pleasure of it and not sustenance. To me, if its hunting its good be it for skwerls, deer, lions, tigers or bad guys.

    P.S. , Im off on 01/19.   :readit:

What Izzy said If I want to work I would stay at work.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

I think I learned this from my son just this past weekend. He's been showing signs of losing interest in deer hunting. He didn't want to go Saturday morning so I offered to take him squirrel hunting / stump shooting instead and he was straight for the truck. We had a great time. Think we're going again tomorrow. Reminded me it's supposed to be FUN!

Did I say "work" Izzy? OMG! I should have said stalking and still hunting is a labor of love... Great when conditions are perfect. Hard when (they) are not. Living over 125 miles away from my hunting area has me make the trip reguardless of conditions. Whatever!   :jumper:

I always look forward to the end of deer season in IA so my son and I can chase bunnies and shoot stumps in some of the public areas around me.

Our best bunny spots were low areas along the railroads where farmers dumped their old junk. those are not accessible any longer since the railroad has decided that no one can go on railroad property other than railroad persons.

Yep i just like to have fun and shoot, that is why I like to bowfish as well as hunt small game.

I love deer hunting
been doing for a long time
But , anymore its not relaxing as I like
Lot of pressure to shoot a deer, and if you pull a bad shot your sick for days.

Small game offers the ability to hunt and have fun.
Your gonna miss, as these critters live by outrunning hawks, coyotes and foxes.

Also you dont have to worry about scent control like big game.
Oh well, lets start hunting to have fun!

I might be the only one out there but I haven't even been in the woods this year but have enjoyed the fun and excitement of 3D trad archery, stump shooting and just being outdoors.  I guess I too feel pressure rather than fun now to deer hunt.  Going to try turkey hunting this up coming season.  Maybe the hunting pilot light might be re-sparked but my passion for archery is always goings.

I enjoy all aspects of shooting my bow whether it's at deer, small game, stumps or blunts at the neighbors cat....   :scared:

Jersey deer in January...then small game on my days off during the mid week. When time permits.
