Has anyone ever tried using camp dry on wool. I don't expect to make it water proof, just not get totally soaked.

I wouldn't just because of the odor......

Not concerned with odor. It's a hat I'm going to wear while shooting 3D courses.

Then it should be fine........

I spray Camp Dry on my Fred Bear style hat each year right after the hunting season so it has time to loose the smell. I think it does help repel water and it works well as a rain hat.

Ok. just got the Bowmans Hat from Classic Sportsman and didn't want to screw it up.

I got mine from 3Rivers about 8 years ago. You might contact the manufacturer to be sure.

I wear a Browning wool felt hat and spray it every fall with some type of water proof and it works great, no issues.  I know your not worried about smell and you shouldn't be. Never did understand why guys are hung up on the smell of man made products since it's the smell of man that matters to the critters.

Ok I sprayed it. Yeah it stinks but that will fade.

I know you asked about "Camp Dry", but "Obenauf's" makes a silicone spray in a pump bottle you can use it on most fabrics and leather, and no stink.

I was told by KOM years ago that me using camp dry is what caused my wool pants to start wearing thin in 2 years. Not sure I bought that answer.

Once your wool gets soaked while you are wearing it, take it off, shake or spin most of the water out and put it back on. It warms back up petty quick ater that..........

I never put anything on my wool hats. If it gets that wet, I just give it a wring.

I don't treat my hunting clothing - but you might want to consider a product called Sunbrella 303.  It is a waterproofing spray used to retreat boat canvas.  The label says it is suitable for wool, silk or leather as well as natural and synthetic fabrics.

Not cheap, but it does a great job on old biminis and dodgers.  Also does a great job on Tilley hats.

Wool air dries nicely and treating it may keep moisture in as well as out.
