Well I was able to take my first Javi this past weekend.  A very old boar turns out.  I was hunting  a friends place and when they came in he was working hard to get there first.  He had a bum front left leg and they ran him off the corn right away.  Those little boogers are mean.  I figured I'd take the wounded one in the bunch.

They are also tough as nails.  I made a pretty good shot on him.  He went down about 5 yards from the feeder.  It happened to be on the trail I was hoping a buck would come in on so I got down and went to drag him off.  Note to self, take pistol with you when approach a wounded (you might think is dead) javi.  He jumped up, hair standing straight up and starting popping his jaws at me.  I backed out real quick!

In the end a really nice harvest for me and the first (other than a cotton tail) with my new Big Jim Buff.

Congrats on the Javi! They are my all time favorite critter to bowhunt and was my first bow-kill 32 years ago.

It's a shame they have gotten so pricey to hunt.

Javies are Gods gift to a stalking bowhunter! I just wished they tasted better than they do.

Congrats on the ranch rat, Zane!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.  It was a good time.  I do wish I could have stalked some.  I did get the chance to stalk a young 8 point.  He's going to be a Haus in about 2 years.  I was able to get to full draw twice at 5 yards or less.  Probably closest I've ever had a deer stalked on the ground.

They can get kinda mad after being skewered. I shot one on the King Ranch several years ago. The arrow was sticking out both sides when he went down. This was when carbons first came out and were somewhat expensive. He was down and wallowing around and not wanting him to break my new carbon arrow, I grabbed the feathered end and tried to pull it out. It would not budge as his ribs held the broadhead. He took offense at my intrusion and promptly grabbed the front half of my left foot in his mouth. Aside from quite a bit of damage to some new Redwing boots, I was uninjured but learned a lesson. I could have lost a toe or more had he not been weak and dying.
