My friend WidowDoublelung killed a stud last thursday and come to find out, that is the same day I got this big 8 with stickers. I killed this buck about 10 that morning out of a natural hide built under a magnolia tree. It is in a thick funnel along a creek bottom that is only about 30 yards wide. On each side are mature, open pines with 200 yard visibility. On each end are 2 large, thick creek bottoms that deer use as bedding areas/sanctuary. Every deer that goes between those bottoms can pass through the  funnel that provides good cover, or walk those open woods with no understory. The first time I hunted the hide, I saw 11 deer including 2 small rack bucks. It was the first time in the blind and I had seen some giant trees tore up, so I let everything walk the first day to kinda see what might be in there(I don't use trailcams). Saw this buck at 30 yards the second morning and was simply stunned, never dreamed a buck of that caliber would be in a place like that(Homochitto National Forest). He picked every step carefully and was very cautious. It took him several minutes to cover the 30 yards to my 12 yard shooting lane. It was nerve wracking as the wind was iffy and he was so cautious. He made it to my lane however, and my Thunderchild has a bloody spirit, so the shot was good despite me nearly coming un-hinged. He only went 40 to 50 yards after the Woodsman Elite had it's way with him. I'm blessed to live in big deer country and killed a giant 10 point last year, this deer just dwarfs him! The real irony is that I built this blind on public land to be able to shoot smaller deer that I would not want to take on my private land. Better to be lucky than good.
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.

Awesome buck with alot of character!  Great job!  I'd like to see a record book like Pope and Young for public land only trophies.  Quite an accomplishment and honestly I didn't know they got that big in Mississippi.  Thanks for sharing!

Someone told me you guys didn't have any giants down that far south. I see they weren't correct.

Nice one Brother!

It's only in certain areas. If you had to count all the 200 inch deer that had been killed in our area using fingers, you would have to get your toes involved.
