Hey guys,  that rendezvous idea in northeast Wi. sound interesting for next year. Seems there are more trad hunters up here than I thought.   Al

Thanks for the replies. Some sort of rendezvous sounds good.

Sending out some pm's

Howdy fellow Cheeseheads.  Like Nate, I'm transplanted to a different state, mine being Illinois so currently a FIB.  Nate, that sounds close to some of my stomping grounds, got aunts, uncles and cousins around Athelstane, Amberg, Wausaukee and Marinette.  Grandpa had a homestead on the Menominee River years and years ago.
Nate, hope you can make it to the PBS Banquet in Pittsburgh, was nice meeting you in SLC.
I hunted last weekend NE of Stevens Point and then over east of Ladysmith.  Deer activity was very slow.  I head for Door County tonight for some more fun in the "big woods".  Way tougher to hunt than the farm country I live in, but fun nonetheless.  Bowhunting with friends is what it's all about, deer or no deer.
So, when is the rendezvous?  We are usually shooting carp up there somewhere over Memorial Day weekend.

Nate Fikkert

Kevin,

Yeah, we have a cabin in Beecher and I have friends with a Cabin a bit north of us, close to where the Peme Bon Won River dumps into the Menominee.  Sorry, won't make Pittsburgh, just can't make it happen, I would have liked to make it work.  As far as the rendezvous, lets try to shoot for next fall everyone.  I think I will try to make a trip back in early November.

Just another thing I was thinking about.  There used to be a good group of trad shooters in the Green Bay area.  We used to shoot at Arrowhead Archery and 3-D country outdoor range.  After those two places went out of business I don't know what happened to the group.  That was going on 6-7 years ago, so I don't know what has happened since then.  Something that guys in the G.B. area may want to look into.  I think there might be some trad guys who shoot at 12-ring Archery on Main St.

BBB - Down in the Milwaukee area - not at my request - and know of your area a little. There is a "primative area" just west of Florence (Witch something or other) and wondering if that is an area that a person could go to during the rut and camp for a few days. ever hear of it?

BBB- just a thought for a get together and a 3-D shoot, the Commonwealth sportsmans club has a course and would probably rent it to us for a weekend.
Experience the Northwoods... It rejuvenates the soul.

I'm from the UP. I hunt in Iron county (Amasa, Crystal Falls).

Can Hahaka, I'm not sure of the place you're talking about, but it's probably some part of the Nicolet NF which is just west of Florence. iirc, there was some sort of primitive area near the Lost Lake campground.

Gus, that's a good idea. It would be a new experience for me too, cause I have never been to a 3-D shoot or even flung an arrow at a 3-D target.

Clem, I did a little hunting around Carney lake  when I lived in Kingsford.

BBB - The name of the wilderness area is Whisker Lake - ever heard of it?

I live in halfway between Madison and Milwaukee. I've used to hunt up in the near Port Wing, close to Lake Superior. My Grandma lived in Bayfield but since she's moved down here and into assisted living I haven't been up there. I do miss the big woods. I used to have an awesome honey hole up there...

Can Hahaka, I looked it up and here's a link    Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest  It appears from the website that hunting is allowed just no motor vehicles. Sounds like a nice place I'll have to check it out. Cant seem to find a map of it though.
