The middle of Oct I was in stand debating taking a shot at a coyote that was SITTING facing me, watching his pack mate on the other side of the ditch I was at.  I was being somewhat selfish and wanted my first shot with the new longbow I was carrying to be at a deer, not only a deer, but a buck!  Needless to say, I let him walk at 15 yards.

Fast forward to this morning....  I was on stand before church this morning wearing my new wool inserts from Two Tracks and my new Asbell ESB, which is my new favorite outer garment, waiting on ANY deer to come by.

No deer, but 4 coyotes came by me and after seeing a quiver that was covered with an animal hide (Maddog Archery). I have been kicking myself over and over for not taking a shot at the sitting yote... I was NOT going to let this opportunity get by me.

One of the bigger ones came by my shooting lane and I kissed at him to stop him....  mistake...
As I came to full draw, he picked me out in the tree and started to turn around. As I settled in on him and picked a spot, he stopped in mid turn fully alert.  As I relaxed my hook on the string, he ducked and continued his turn.

I was rewarded with  watching my arrow slip right over the top of him and impact into the cut bean field.        All four beat a hasty retreat with me thanking the Good Lord for the opportunity to witness some of his creation....   :campfire:

I wound up in the stand for about 90 minutes longer without seeing nothing more than a squirrel.  Great hunt, none-the-less!

Thanks for reading and for all the great tips and stories!

God Bless

I have shot 4 with my bow. I have had numerous misses like you that by the time the arrow reached its mark the coyote was no longer there.

They seem to pick up any movement you make even more so than deer do.

Keep after them!  I whiffed at a few before I connected on my first deer!  It'll all come together!  I shot a lot of 3D and practiced on hogs last summer and that really helped boost confidence!  Good Luck!

I drew on one back in March and he spotted me. He back peddled pretty quick and I didn't take the shot.

Maybe next time!
