Looking for some input on a Bobcat hunt in Michigan. Anybody out there able to recommend a guide that could deal with a traditional archer to hunt one of these beauties?

I'd be interested in that as well. My buddy has trapped a few, and I've seen a few done similar to a bear rug. Gorgeous!
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

I was hoping to do that in WI, but got no replies to adverts placed more locally.

Chuck:  You need to draw  a permit in Wisconsin to hunt/trap bobcat, and they're very hard to get. I have 8 preference points (8 years worth of drawing) and still haven't received a tag.

A lot of folks who run bear with dogs also run bobcats.

We have a season for bobcats in the southern half of Iowa, I have only ever seen one. However, we have a number of these. We have had a couple of close encounters as well.   http://www.ksfy.com/story/24168989/mountain-lion-killed-in-northwest-iowa
It would have been better if a bowhunter shot it.

A buddy of mine would run Bobcat with his bear dogs after the Bear season was done.   They have gotten a few over the years,  but it sounds like regulations have changed since he was big into years a go.

I've seen ads in the back of Woods and Water for guided Bobcat hunts and thought they were rather expensive. I'd contact the Michigan Bear Hunters Association and see where that gets you. Many run cats for fun.

i killed one here in Alabama a couple of years ago with my Blacktail.

down here, it's more of a lucky encounter kind of thing. can't recall a lot of people setting out for them intentionally.

you can call them in, but they're probably a lot more wary than when you encounter them by luck.

Chuck, I will try to get a name for you, a customer of mine got a nice cat, from the Glennie area, I will see if I can get his guides name and contact for you, Todd

Jerry, if you were speaking my way (there are two Chucks going on this thread), I have a tag in hand, and yes, it took a bunch of preference points.  I was just busy this fall and put off pursuing it.

I put a blurb out on Craigs list for northern WI but got no replies at all.

Its almost over for the first period so I may have just wasted this tag.  Oh well.

Go try to call one in if you can't find anyone with dogs. Rodent and bird distress sounds. Got a big one last year while calling coyotes.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

Might have to try that, now that you mention it.

Chuck.  Figured you would be up on the regs.  How long did it take you to draw?

I agree with Thumper.  If you can't find a hound person, give calling a try.  Of course, in the north country where most of the cats live, there are also a lot of coyotes and wolves.  You're as likely to call them in, but that's fun, too.

ChuckC

Jerry.  8 or 9 PPs as I recall.  A bunch.  Seems a waste to just let it go.  I think I may take a few days and go up north and call as suggested.  You're right, either way I am out of the house and it could be interesting.

Id be up for that! I even might know someone with hounds
