Mike,

That's why I wait for a couple of frosts before hitting the woods.  Of course, after a couple of days in the upper 70s to low 80s the chiggers came out of "hibernation".

Actually, this is a mild case for me.  I remember some of the bad cases I got back in KS, I'd have 100s of bites on each leg from ankle to groin, 100s of bites around my waist and 100s of bites on my chest/belly/shoulders and on my back.  I quit picking blackberries!!

Chiggers, OUCH!  Being a Michigan boy I had no idea what a chigger was until I hunted Missouri the first week in October this year in 85 degree weather. I got educated! Had bloody shins and feet for a month and a half with a real special one that drove me crazy right under my belt on my hip. Bought a spray bottle of Sawyer Permethrin that we were spraying on us like bug spray the first day until we read the warning label. Not the way to use it. I don't know what scared me more, chiggers or the side effects of soaking yourself in poison. Been mauled and bloodied by black flies bear hunting in Quebec more than once and I'll take them black flies any day over them damn chiggers!

You can get chiggers anywhere you have constriction of clothing.  And if you're a sweat hog, like me, it isn't unusual to have 400+ bite sites on your body!    :scared:    :banghead:    :banghead:
