well I bought a new one here last week and now im trying to tune it. any tips... what arrows shoot best for you?? wood? aluminum? carbon?? I have a wide variety of wood arrows, some 2016 xx75's,
the cedar arrows are spined from 40-45 to 60-65 but none seem to shoot well?? Im still tuning but figure if any of you guys shoot a 50# magnum maybe I could cut a few corners and get it shooting good enough to finish season with?
I still have my osage long bow I built in 2003 that I can hunt with but would like to get my bear Kodak magnum shooting well ASAP, as I still have a Month of regular season left here. any advice would be appreciated>
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Dhermon
it must be a nocking point issue? I will tinker with it some more tomorrow. I had it shooting decent but not as accurate as I like. pie plate groups at 12 yrds with an occasional flyer.. could be me. my eyes are not as sharp as they once was.

I shoot full length Gold Tip 35/55's w/ 100gn insert & 200gn points out of my '04 K-Mag (50# @ my 28"). Don't know right off what my brace height or nocking points are, but can check if you'd like. They seem to fly pretty good for me, when I do my part. I haven't yet messed with woodies or aluminum. Hope that helps ya.

try a bear weather rest, worked for me, and yes the 2016 should work, i have a 26 1/2 inch draw and mine are cut to 28 inches, also my 55 to 65 woodies fly great as well, elevated rest seems to help, rich pyle

Orion

Larrydawg:  As I'm sure you know,  short bows aren't as forgiving of form problems as longer bows.  More difficult to get off the string, more affected by string hand and bow grip torque, etc.  Form could certainly account for an occasional flier. Good luck.

2nd on what Orion said.  I have a 45# Kmag and is it much less forgiving than my 45# Howatt Hunter.

That said (as other have said) those 2016s with say a 125 to 150 should work putting you right around 10 gpi.  What is your brace height set at?  Might want to try upping it a little to see if it is a little more forgiving.  Mine is set at 8 inches. Bear Archery list the range as 7-8 inches.

Larrydawg

I have brace height at 7.5 in. but im still tweaking it. my arrows have been porpoising so now im working on adjusting that. I will try 8 in. a few turns at a time.
Pyle what rest do you use?? im shooting off shelf right now. I had a raised rest on my shakespere Ocala and removed it to add a shelfpad. I should have saved it I guess. I think part of my problem is I shoot my long bow with firm grip and I may need to lighten up with the recurves. im gonna shoot some more then post on here the results.

I use 8" brace height.  Have tried a variety of carbons with mixed success but 55-65 cedars with 125 gr points fly well for me.  I have a short piece of toothpick behind the fur on my rest to correct a minor fishtail.   I shoot split finger, and I alter my hook just a bit so my ring finger doesn't hold much pressure - seems to alleviate any pinch.  I'm drawing 28.

ok I adjusted brace to about 8 inches, it shooting better im getting a 5 in group at 15 yds. its getting there, ive got to get more feathers as I shot through the fence and peeled a couple off.(Man I hate it when That Happens!!!)

Ok Fellas, more questions! what string do you use on your Kodiak Magnum?? mine has fast flight but been thinking of twisting D-50 string as a back up.
My bow is braced at 8 in and my grouping has improved considerable, might just needed to shoot it and get used to the difference from my 68in Osage Self Bow.
it shoots sweet but still has a harsh Twang to it, it has beaver balls and I shoot either 2016 aluminum arrows or 500 grain cedars with 4in Feathers and 125 grain field tip or magus broadhead.
could just be the ol long bow is quieter.

Get ya some Bow Hush. That'll help a lot!! It'll never be as quiet as your Osage selfbow.

the elf

Try the brace height at---8 1/2 inches.

stagetek

I'd stay with the F.F. string. What elf said, higher brace height.

pghrich

hello, the rest i use is a bear weather rest, dicks has them in stock all the time for about 4 bucks, cut the bottom off a little to get it a little closer to my hand, i shoot 3 under, and also try a little higher brace heigth, mine was 8 1/4 inch or so, rich pyle

Mike Falkner

Yep, on yours higher BH should quieten it.  Raise it a little, shoot a few, you'll be able to tell when it's too far.  Mine is old so I don't use FF strings.

One thing that helped my groups tighten up with this bow was twisting my grip (rotated my left/bow hand clockwise about 1 hour) just a bit so the web of my thumb and just the heel of my thumb were in contact.
