Hmmm.  What if a 10 footer shows up??  You can poke him in the eye:)  Good luck with that.  He may poke back!

jrchambers

I hope a 10 footer does....hope I don't shoot him in the eye

Talking with Larry Lewis at the Kenai Brown Bear Committee last Tuesday.  The salvage requirement only applies to bears taken at bait stations.   Good luck Jason!  If you need lead back-up give me a call.  Might ask to use your new smoke pole though!

Lots of enthusiasm/criticism surrounding this hunt. Kind of a blue collar brown bear opportunity.  One of the best percs for calling this place home...

Good luck to you Jason,  please take pics as I will be going on a brown bear hunt in 2 years. I am trying to learn as much as possible.

Keith Zimmerman

Sounds like an awesome hunt.  Cant wait for pics and a great story.

Jason, good luck buddy,,,,,,,,they're baaaaack.  Saw a nice one down Turnagain yesterday.  I think the lack of snow brought them out early this year..

jrchambers

I hauled in another stand to my site today and came across 3 brown bears playing in the snow....I got to watch for 30 mins as they rolled and slid around.  the big problem was I couldn't tell the sow from the cubs.... even after the tracks in the fresh snow.   2 were 7 foot give or take and one was a wee smaller.  the next problem was I didn't bring any kind of weapon and they were only 60 yards or so.  they were only 300 yards down wind of my site.  hope they stick around and track some scent into a big guy

jrchambers

my camera was in my pack, I didn't want to move or make noise and spoil the rare moment I was so blessed to witness.

jrchambers

they are quite goofy and remarkable at the same time

cromebuck you will have a hard time pulling it out of my hands,  you could be my bow bearer though.

Good luck Jason.  Stay safe and shoot straight.  What a great opportunity; I hope it works out for you and will be anxiously watching the progress.

Just because you are passionate about something, doesn't mean you don't suck at it.

jrchambers

did the bait up this morning,  I like to take a jug of grease, poke a few holes then go for a hike.  dragging it in a large loop back to the site.  I usualy do 3 of these so I can cover most of the area within a 1/4 mile.  while doing that my buddy came across several sets of bear tracks.  he said they were probably black bear.
