I made a video of my deer hunt yesterday. I made it to demonstrate an unusual and subtle funnel as well as one way to deal with hunting pressure. I ended up taking a big doe but there are a couple twists along the way.

Jason,
Thanks for sharing that video. Your strategy worked like a charm.
Sorry about the loss of that good venison to a bunch of yotes.

the coyotes definetly bummed me out pretty bad. but the strategy and funnel explination was the reason i made the video. right after i made the podcast on hunting big woods i got quite a few emails from hunters asking how i deal with the gun pressure on state land. So i figured that set up would be perfect to show one example.

Ive seen it happen to bear in Maine and deer in Texas but never lost a deer to yotes in NY . Great pod cast.

in the last 5 years i have only had to leave 2 deer overnight. both of those deer were hit by coyotes before morning. and on both of those hunts i was in the woods in the area until late in the midnight to 2 am hours real close to where the deer laid.
so twice in a 5-6 hour period of my absance yotes got my deer out of the 2 times it happen.
Thats a 100% hit rate by coyoteson overnight deer for me.
never gonna happen again! next time i hunt this area and have to wait until morning i am building a shelter and a fire and camping out until daylight, dancing naked around the fire singing my favorite rock songs. maybe that will keep the yotes away.

good video man, sorry about the yotes, seems about like my luck too. Thanks for the vid!

Great video. I was thinking the same thing, camp out all night to keep the yotes away. I'll bet they were waiting for you to leave the area.
Got some good meat anyway. Thanks for sharing that.Really like the podcast!

I found your pod cast to be very informative. Thank you.

great video thanks for posting - friends I believe each of us should spend at least a few weekends a year trapping coyotes - it won't wipe em out - but will help - we must participate - it is part of being responsible "stewards" of our deer herd.
Thanks - Cory<><

Man what a bummer. That was great video you made though. Way to stick it out.  I thought that shot looked very good also. I would have been eased n never of thought the deer would lived that long. That was good shot though.

Your set up looks similar to how I have been hunting the last 2 years. I stopped going in deep n started hunting the close over looked areas. It has panned out great for me. The drags are awesome and I am seeing more deer. It does feel odd hunting close to roads n such but the guys are not there so that means the deer are! Crazy.

Our rifle season starts here in couple weeks. Bow season is over now. I'm looking to do the same thing use guys to my advantage hunt spots everyone walks buy n hunt very heavy cover with limited shot distance n well see what happens. I got two weeks to find a spot for first day of rifle.

Cool hunt story! Too bad about the song dogs. I've lost two deer here in VA over the past ten years cause I had to back out on the trail. Found both deer the following mornings minus the hind quarters. I never even saw a coyote in the woods until the first day of bow season this fall. Wouldn't you know it, I shot the sucker and made a good kill!

I'd be interested in trapping them, but I haven't a clue as to how. They hunt with deer dogs here in eastern VA and with my luck, I'd end up trapping someone's hound.
