Had these two bucks at 40 yards for 30min, I quit filming. Then they quickly moved closer just for a bit, about to leave, I had to decide quick, took the shot, right over the back of the bigger one! He may have ducked it too, it was over in a blink! Stepped it off at 32 yards. So close! They sure didn't stick around to see what that was all about!

Get him next time. Only way not to miss is to never shoot.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

I botched an 11 yard shot on a very nice 5x5 in Pennsylvania that I rattled in from about 60 yards.  I took hair off his back.

I am sure that my mouth hung open as I watched his walk away...  I am considering it "catch and release".

Bummer. I center punched a tree this weekend on a doe.

ermont

That's a long ways dude. Next time!

32 yards may as well be a mile for me! Lol Hope you get another try!

Irish Archer

Yep, long way off to me! Keep pluggin'

Ceb

Shot over a nice buck myself last week. At 22-23 yds!

Gen273

It happens to all of us, I shot over one a few weeks back. Stay after them, you will get them next time.

The first year I hunted with my recurve I missed the biggest buck i ever shot at before or since not once but twice!! Once right over his back, once right under him! It stings no doubt!

Boomerang

Yep, shot over a nice doe at 15yds this past weekend.  :knothead:

I must have had some sort of stroke this morning as I missed a doe I had watched for nearly an hour feed to 14 yards.  I "double clutched" the release and she took off, not knowing what had happend.  I nocked another arrow as she stopped a ways off, I guessed 40 yards (the only gap that I shoot for- point on) and executed a perfect release with clean arrow flight, only to have the arrow sail inches over the crease behind her shoulder. If I had only shot like that to begin with...  It was a rough morning. Before people get on my case about shooting that distance, I need to say that I wouldn't have ever taken that shot if I was not standing upright, if the doe was looking at me, if i haven't practiced my point on broadhead shooting a 40 yards (I can't do gaps, so a anything appearing from about 30-38 is a no go).  I still have some time, but I am glad I am not hording the misfourtune.

Talk to me after you empty a quiver, lol

Maybe we should re-name this thread to "Who missed from the least distance."  Me, 7 or 8 yards on a small buck, but I then watched my buddy nail him with a muzzleloader.  Still fun, besides you should count your blessings that you at least got a shot at them!  Any good shot opportunity makes for a good day in my book, even if I miss.  Beats watching TV!
