This past weekend some fellow trad shooters and I went to Boeuf WMA in North LA.  The weekend was filled with good times, good food, and great fellowship.

Sunday evening Steve Raggio, my uncle Ken, and myself all walked up an old four wheeler trail and we branched off of it about 100 yards apart.  I walked around surveying the area and decided on the tree to put my climber on.

I was sitting there at around 4 o'clock, I hear something coming up through the woods that was much louder than any deer I have ever heardyou hunters know that everything you hear in the woods is a deer until your eyes prove your heart wrong).  Well I quickly realized that this commotion was my father in law walking in with his gimp leg(knee replacement).  He walked in about 45 mins after us and managed to walk right up on me without him ever knowing, he walks around for about 10-15 mins and then sits down 100 or so yards from me. It was funny to say the least.   Well i had debated on getting down and moving but i continued to sit in my stand and about 5:20 i hear something coming.

I look up and i see a spike buck at about 25 yards.  He is walking from my right to left and stops at about 2 o'clock with his head behind a tree licking the bark(???), well while he is doing that, i reposition and ready myself for a shot.  He comes from behind the tree and continues to move right to left.  He takes a few more steps and then turns slightly back to my right some.  He is about 20 yards at this time and is quartering towards me pretty well.  All the sudden he gets an itch on his opposite ham.  When he turns to scratch, i pick my spot, hit my anchor, and release.  I watch the arrow fly true, it disappears between his ribs.  The spike takes off running and runs about 35 yards before beginning to walk again.  He walks for about 15 yards and then falls over.

It was one of the most amazing experiences I have experienced.  2 years of pursuing a whitetail and my first whitetail i get a shot at, i get to tag it.

Here are a few pics.

Thank you Lord for this experience.  Just a great reminder of how all the outdoors are meant to remind us of Gods love and power.

An earned and well utilized trophy for sure.

I have always thought it funny how fast it happens when it happens. Two years of "blah blah blah." then "WHAM! I tagged a buck!!!""

Way to stick with it and congrats.

Thank you guys, It was a long journey and really the only shot i have had at a whitetail.  The joy of killing a deer eclipses the wait of 2 years.  the best part was definitely eating it though.   :)
