Disclaimer: For those who have never dissected a turkey consider yourselves warned. After seeing for myself how small the vitals are I now have my doubts I could ever pull off another lethal shot.

Beginning to think the head shot may be the way to go.

Def small. There is a post somewhere that someone showed this in detail.
I have heard on of the best is walking away spinal shot. Or the double bull blinds guys go for a either spine or through the hips breaking the bird down kinda shot. You'll have to check into this

If that shot was 3" higher I think you would have got the lung and heart.  How was your recovery?  Was your shot in the breast of the bird?  Very interesting.

I also thought the shot was low...but 20 yards was all it ran. I hit the top of the heart, severing a ventricle. I think the wing may have been lifted slightly.

Look at Terry Greens vitals diagram posted at the top of this forum.

Dusty,  It appears from your picture that what you have there is the heart and liver - lungs are up higher against the ribs/spine.  Still your point is well taken, they are indeed small targets.

Pete,

Yep, you're right. Meant to put heart and liver. Lungs did not survive my amateur autopsy.
