BLAM!!! you step on a snake.

 I sat till 11:00 this morning with no action other than a bunch of Turkeys coming through. I started out and stepped on this rascal. I`m almost sure its a Coral snake but could be a scarlet King. Good for raising the heart rate either way.RC

yep coral....red touches yellow,kill a fellow....red touches black,friend of jack....learned that in scouts 30 years ago,easy way to identify the two

While it would increase my heart rate as well,  it might also make me go home for some clean drawers...lol

My dad taught me a similar rhyme, even though we live in MI and don't get coral snakes up here;

"Red and yellow hurt a fellow - red and black, venom lack". I understand the coral snake has to get a small section of skin in his mouth to bite as their mouths don't open like a pit viper's do. As Ric O'Shay said, he wouldn't have to hurt me - I'd hurt myself probably bouncing off one of our satellites before coming back down hard.

I've only seen one in the woods at Tosohatchee WMA close to Orlands. Took his picture  

That one is a big one you saw..I've heard but don't know for sure that their mouth is so small they can't actually stike you, but have to bite you and chew like in place such as the loose meat between you thumb and first finger.

I read that somewhere a long time ago don't know if true or not.

That just SUCKS!!!! One good reason to live in NE Ohio. No chiggers, few ticks and really no poisonous snakes. I hunt north central PA though and have seen some Jim Dandy Timber rattlers. Even found a couple dens in late turkey season and they were laying everywhere around that den.
Sure ruined that morning.

Yep, that's a nice coral snake. You're pretty safe with one of those. They are rear fanged, so they really have to chew on you. They're not aggressive, either. I hope you let him go about his business.

thats a big one. Coral snakes have a black nose...I can never remember the rhyme. I have caught them and relocated them, water moccasins are the ones I hate to run across

He looks "out of business" to me!  

I don't think RC is big on letting snakes "continue with their day..."

the only good snake is a DEAD ONE!!!!
