This is a great article on the necessity of hunting, by a magazine that usually doesn't touch on the subject. I thought you boys and girls may enjoy a read...

I read it last night Chad , I was surprised at how well it was done as well as how pro hunting it was , Kudos to NG

If you haven't seen the new National Geographic Adventures magazine you might want to look at it also. Wilderness survival stories and all kinds of info on wilderness areas, the kind of stuff that keeps my "Walter Mitty" type brain cells burned up!!It and TBM, and Backpacker magazine leads my subscription list.

This is positive.  Let me suggest that we send a note to the editor expressing thanks.  The magazine will take heat for this article - so let's offer support!

Thanks for bringing this to us Chad. National Geographic is a one of the classic examples of intelligent media, itself an endangered species. An intelligent observation of evidence and facts as opposed to the reactionary and emotional diatribes normally published in magazines representing both sides of the hunting issue. Aldo Leopold and Theodore Roosevelt would be proud.                              Grant

Now that was a good article. It does seem to hit the proverbial nail on the head, though the "over 50 and over fed" comment hit Waaay too close to home...  :)

It was refreshing from an authorative source!!

Excellent! We really need this kind of journalism in todays age of "PC"ism.

It really does my mind proud to know that a publication like National Geographic has enough common sense to publish an article such as this---what with all the liberal publications so apt to publish their version of "conservatism".
I guess that NG decided that Man was indeed a part of the food chain as well.
The human species tends to forget(in its self-percieved superiority)that it is part of nature too. We are animals too, and a very important part of nature.
Sorry to rant----good article.

Would have been perfect, except for referring to poachers as hunters.  Thanks for sharing.
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

I'm not surprised at all....hunting and conservationism go hand in hand. We know the truth because we live it, we ARE the truth. National Geographic has long been known for "intelligent media" (love it Grant!). I agree with smoke, a couple of lines from everyone appreciating "the truth" in print would go a long way to shore up their desire to continue printing it.
