Went out this morning, basically to do some scouting for deer, but on the way in, I noticed a flock of Merriams in a meadow. I went on my merry way, and saw a couple of small bucks, but got to thinking about the turkeys and if I might be able to put a stalk on them. I slowly moved in their direction, and spotted them in a big meadow, but they were moving my way, so a plan was formed; a deep ditch was between me and them, and I used it to advantage.

After about a 30 minute stalk, I got to within 20 yards or so of the bunch. Peeking over the berm of the ditch, I saw the closest bird, drew the bow, and stood up. My arrow was only going to clear the ditch by a few inches if I made a good shot, so I had to block that from my mind. Actually picking a spot, I concentrated on the hen and let fly. The shot severed her neck, and she dropped on the spot.

A tender young bird that will be some fine eating.

Very Cool Photo!  If that would have been me I'd have placed those breasts right in a baking bag and fired up the oven!   :goldtooth:

Congratulations!  A good hunter takes advantage of his situation and you certainly did that by changing your plans.  Way to go!
