I currently shoot carbon Goldtips 3555 30" long.  I am in need of more arrows, although I plan to hunt with my carbons this season I would like to try a batch of woodies.  Any suggestion as to what spine to choose (40-45?) I have a new Bear Super Grizzly 45@28 and I draw 27".

I shoot 45/50 lb longbows with your draw length. I shoot 55-60 spine with a barrel taper..... with 5 or 5 1/2 shield feathers and Cedar Shafts.

Depends on what length you want to shoot. If you want to shoot 30" arrows you will probably need 60-65# spine especially if you use a non stretch string.

However if you cut them to 28",you can probably use 50-55# shafts.Or 5# less if you use a B-50 string.

I shoot 57# , 450 grain, 28 inch on  45# @ 28. They shoot great out of all three of my 45# bows.

Honestly, I just got really lucky.  The 500 spine carbons I bought were 30" I put 125 tips on and shoot bullet holes through the paper.  If I add or subtract weight I get sideways tears.  I am happy with the performance of these GT arrows.  I am not set on any particular length.  I do have FF string on this bow.

Wood arrows just have more traditional feel and offer more individuality to me.

Just for a reference the GT 35-55s spine about 60-61# on 26" centers,(the way woodies are spined.)

I shoot a 30" arrow now and have no issues with it, is there any gain to shortening my arrows as far as performance??  I am thinking start with some 55-60# at full length and shorten as needed until they paper tune good.  Does that sound right?

Let me check on what I have available for testing and we can meet at the range after work to see what is going to work best for you.  What weight point do you want to shot?

I'm shooting 135 grain zwicky's on my carbons and I have a few 160 grains.
