How many FPS would you think a 62" Pronghorn 3 piece 60# @ 29" shooting Arrow Dynamics trad weighting 712 grains? I don't shoot for speed but it doesn't hurt either.  I know how fast or slow for that matter but just curious what you think.

How far are you drawing the bow?

The Stu Miller spine calculator will give you as good a guess as we can...if you really want to know a good chronograph is around a hundred bucks

Stu's don't have a Pronghorn so I used a Robertson R/D and it guestimates 166 FWIW.

I'm probably guessing on the high side but I'm giving most of the credit of that estimate because of the 29" draw length.

If I had a second guess, I would say between what Bjorn said(165) and 168. I don't think a Pronghorn LB has a very radical R/D profile, so it's probably more like 165 fps.

I've been shooting this set up all this year but never put it through the chronograph.  I would have guessed in the 160's also but it comes in at 149 fps.  Some people say you can't bare shaft AD's but this set up all I see is the nock so it's good for me.  My buddy shoots the same shaft but a lighter head for a total weight of 677 grains.  They shoot out of my pronghorn like darts also but have never bare shafted them and they come in at 163 fps.

there is this endless fascination we all have at one point or another with speed, and arrow speed in particular.  

heck, it roped me in enuf to have owned at least 5 different chronographs over the decades.  

but, truth be told, you draw and release an arrow and you will KNOW if it's fast enough for ya at the distances you need to fling it for your hunt.  what will matter much more is the consistent accuracy you can muster to deliver that super sharp broadhead.  critters don't care 'bout arrow speed, they can out run and out duck the fastest of arrows, too.  

i sold off all those chronys, 'cept one that i still use for working up boom stick loads.

imho, there are much more important things to trad bowhunting than pure arrow speed, or even knowing how fast an arrow can fly out of a particular bow.  the true test of any arrow speed is during the hunt, not under arrow speed testing conditions in the basement range.   :D

I would have guessed 160 give or take 5.

i have a caribow slynx 60#. it shoots my 725gr arrows over 170fps. drop down to 9gpp and its more like 190, and all with muskrat silencers, one brass and one floss nocking point marker.

Rob, this was not about how fast I could get this bow to shoot if it was I wouldn't have waited almost a year to test it.  It was just a curiosity and I was expecting a little faster and was just surprised at the result.  I did saw in the post I don't shoot for speed and if I did I wouldn't be shooting almost 12 grains per pound.  But I was thinking maybe the chrony if off a little.  We ran a couple of bows through it that seemed fairly close.  The one that seemed a little low was a Schafer 73# shooting the 677 grain AD at 179 fps.

Terry, you're chronological was probably right. In my pronghorn ownership years I tested all of the my 59# shot  about 172 with 11 GOP. I had another bow at the time made by another bowyer that was 12# lighter that shot a similar speed. The ferret on the other hand is a very very fast bow. Herbs longbows are not rocket launchers. They are ultra smooth zero hand shock rediculous quality and a stable limb.  You have a quality piece there I'm sure either way.

158-162 fps,would be my guess...but 149 fps doesn't surprise me.

I just shot my old Robertson long bow 66" 63 @ 29" 2216 shafts and it always shot around 174- 176 fps.  So it looks like the chrony is 11 to 12 fps off.  Just like to know.

I'll bet it's fast enough to put two holes in just about any game animal:)
